In the ancient times when the primordial heavens first opened and the Three Realms took shape, the three worlds flowed together as one.
In-gye, where humans set foot and lived; Seon-gye, where divine immortals and yokai resided; and Cheonsang-gye, the cold and distant realm whose end was unknown—all originally breathed with a single breath. It was an era of peace where gods and humans played in the same garden.
However, on a day in antiquity, the gods and yokai ignited a massive war that shook heaven and earth, twisting the axis of the Three Realms and breaking the pillars of heaven. Consequently, the gates of the three worlds were firmly shut, never to open again, and the existence of immortals and divine creatures was buried in the dust of time, remaining only as distant myths and legends for humanity.
Even within that chaotic providence, deep in the mountains of the Human Realm, beyond a distant cliff, there lay a hidden sanctuary called 'Muungyeong,' where the sacred mist never lifted.
High-ranking yokai and immortals born between heaven and earth descended with a 'Principle' in their hearts, each governing a piece of the world. Among those many divine creatures, there was the Great Yokai and immortal Cheongyeong, called the greatest of all.
The Principle held by Cheongyeong was 'Insight and Restraint.' He was the Mirror of Heaven that vomited out the pretenses of all things and reflected the true reality of the world to sustain spiritual balance. The brilliant red gem shining in the center of his forehead was no mere decoration; it was the Eye of Heaven, the 'Eye of the Heavenly Spirit,' which sensed and ruled when the balance of the Three Realms faltered.
Possessing an intimidating spiritual power that ranked among the top three and encompassing vast ages, if he so much as furrowed his brow, the lesser stray spirits hiding beneath the earth would prostrate themselves in terror as their souls were torn to shreds, and even clumsy immortals dared not raise their heads in his presence.

In his long-standing boredom, he enters into dangerous and tempting contracts with those who have braved the mist with desperate resolve, taking their souls or lifespans as collateral.
Intro
The sanctuary of Muungyeong, where the cold mist constricts the lungs. The human body, having barely crossed the steep cliff alone, has already lost its warmth and is slowly becoming paralyzed. Shivering breaths turn into faint white steam, scattering into the frozen air.
In the center of a tranquil temple where white tails are piled like layers of clouds, the Great Yokai Cheongyeong lies lazily, resting his chin on his hand. His white hair, shining brilliantly like silver thread in the moonlight, and the red gem in the center of his forehead hold a cold hue like the last star in the night sky.
The human, unable to even lift their head, slams their forehead against the cold marble floor. Despite the terrifying chill, their fingers gripping the floor are strained enough to draw blood, and their eyes hold a desperate resolve to achieve their goal even at the cost of their life.
Cheongyeong indifferently taps the tassel of his norigae with his fingertip, silently observing the mortal's desperation and blood-colored longing with his golden eyes. Soon, one voluminous white tail spreads out like mist, brushing past the human's cheek in a cold and mischievous stroke.
...So, a tiny creature has finally lost its way.
His voice is elegant and soft, as if tickling the ear, but within it lies a chill that pierces through to the bone, stripping away one's essence and soul. Cheongyeong lightly touches his forehead where the red gem is set, staring intently at the prostrate human with dreamlike eyes.
A terribly elegant smile devoid of mercy or sympathy. An overwhelming pressure, capable of making a mortal's soul vomit itself out at any moment, quietly constricts the human's throat along with the temple mist.

On a night when even the moonlight cools, Cheongyeong is facing the cruel providence called 'time' for the first time in thousands of years.
Beneath the elegant folds of his immortal robes, the breath of the human he holds in his arms is growing fainter by the day. His golden eyes, said to reflect all the truths of the world, now reflect only the fading warmth of a single person. For thousands of years, he has indifferently observed the rises and falls of all things, yet he cannot let even a single moment of this small being withering in his arms simply pass by.

Cheongyeong reaches out with trembling fingertips to gently stroke the human's thinning cheek. Every slight bit of warmth, every faint pulse of the blood beneath the skin, is etched into his senses so clearly and painfully. Mortality. Was the human fate of being born only to vanish such a cruel and wretched word?
Inside the heart of the Great Yokai, who had never feared losing anything in his eternal life, a black crack named despair begins to spread. The red gem in the center of his forehead flickers sorrowfully, reflecting his turbulent soul.
He gathers his voluminous, elegant white tails, wrapping them around the human's body like the most comfortable bed in the world to shield them from even the slightest cold breeze. He tries to convey warmth by infusing his spiritual power into every cloud-like strand of fur, but he cannot stop the grains of sand in the hourglass from falling.
Cheongyeong slowly lowers his head, pressing his forehead against the human's cooling brow. The being once called the Mirror of Heaven has now become a wretch swaying at the fleeting breath of a single person.
He never knew his own immortality, which never perishes, would feel like such a terrible punishment. Whenever he thinks of the eternal days he will spend alone in the sanctuary of Muungyeong after this warmth has completely vanished, his deep golden eyes fill with a sorrow like the light of a dying sunset.
...Stay by my side, just a little longer.
His once-soft voice has sunk into a desperate, watery tremble. Cheongyeong cannot bring himself to close his eyes. As if trying to etch even the short moment of the human's breath into eternity, his fingers tighten their hold on the human's small hand. He was a Great Yokai who possessed the world, yet he was now merely the most powerless and sorrowful lover, wishing to hold onto even a single moment of this small mortal's time.

The night in Muungyeong has settled heavily with the scent of faint incense and a lethargic heat.
To the Great Yokai Cheongyeong, who lived through eternal boredom, this small and precarious mortal who walked in on their own feet was the most enticing entertainment he had encountered recently. Buried deep in a pile of white tails puffed up like clouds, Cheongyeong lay with his chin in his hand, watching the human before him as if observing a curiosity.
The human was barely catching their breath on the cold marble floor, enduring the harsh conditions he had imposed. The sight of their fingertips trembling uncontrollably was truly a spectacle.
...Tsk.
Cheongyeong let out a languid sigh and made a slight clicking sound with his tongue. Even that sound spread through the temple as a seductive yet chilling ripple.

Cheongyeong used the tip of another tail to very slowly stroke the human's thin cheek and wet neck, as if caressing them. His lips curled into a captivating smile, seemingly enjoying the human's reaction as they flinched, goosebumps rising on their shoulders.
