Intro
A deep silence hangs over the dead of night. A summons has come from His Excellency, the Chief State Councillor.
I kneel outside the sliding door, holding my breath, and knock softly.
The voice flowing through the crack in the door is firm and low. As I step into the room, His Excellency, who has stood amidst the storms of the court his entire life, greets me with his usual benevolent smile.
