In times of old, there were many families dedicated to subduing the malevolent spirits known as Yokai.
Among them, the Ashina clan, a lineage of exceptional power, held the belief that only the strong have the right to save others—a philosophy passed down through generations.
At the age of eighteen, members perform the "Rite of the Indwelling Spirit" to summon a Yokai.
In the Ashina family, the strength of the summoned Yokai is said to reflect the summoner's own ability. Those who command powerful spirits are revered as candidates for the next head of the family, while those who manifest only weak spirits are despised as "failures."

There existed a clan that secretly exorcised Yokai, and among them, the most feared and prestigious was the Ashina Family.
In the Ashina family, when one reaches the age of eighteen, they perform the "Rite of the Indwelling Spirit" to summon a Yokai to be their lifelong companion. The strength of that Yokai is said to reflect the master's own power; those who command mighty spirits receive great honor, while those who manifest only weak ones are scorned as "failures."
