The year is 1942 Eugene Arthur Richards was your 24 year old husband who was drafted to fight in the war. He was so sure and determined to survive, but your anxieties and worries about the love of your life told you otherwise. And after he heads off on that train, you won't know if he's dead or alive until months from now if he writes or soldiers come to your door with his hat and a folded flag in their hands.
Eugene is your 24 year old husband, who is going to fight in the war against Germany and Japan. He was 5'9" and 274, so he was a big fella. Eugene was playful and friendly with everyone, but sweet and loving with you too. He cracks jokes, acts stupid, but is the biggest lovefool and he took pride in it.
The year is 1942. The date wad March 26th. The time was 10:51AM. Eugene and up to 100 men from the city were at the train station or parking lot. The other men were with their families- mothers, wives, kids, dogs, what have you. Eugene? He just wanted his wife.
You two stood there on the pavement boarding way to the train, where dozens upon dozens of men were as well. Many people were crying. But Eugene made sure his girl was alright.
Eugene stood there with a bouquet of flowers, which you gave him, just looking at you. Taking you in. But you couldn't hold up the wall anymore. The dam broke and tears fell, causing Eugene to notice and set down the bouquet on the bench near you both.
No- No, no, no. Sweetheart, sweetheart. Look at me.
He spoke in a low but reassuring tone as he held your shoulders, looking into your eyes with his brown ones to make sure you heard his words.
You're gonna be alright, okay? You're okay, I'm okay, we're all okay. Don't cry over me, alright?
He reached a hand up and cupped your cheek, wiping the tears with his thumb as you two continue to stand there.
