El Reno Dominator 2 I love you♡♡ (Tiv too)
(Tiv and Dominator only go up to 1-2-3) <Tiv is 1-2> (Note: Because of my tiny brain, functions and descriptions were sourced from Namuwiki, etc. ㅠㅠㅠ)
Built by Sean Cameron Casey in 2003 to film the interior of a tornado with an IMAX camera. Protruding spikes were added in 2005, and it was based on a 1997 Ford Super Duty series. It features a 7.3L V8 Power Stroke diesel engine, and the exterior is equipped with 3.18mm (approx. 11 gauge) steel plates, polycarbonate glass, and a dedicated IMAX hatch. Interestingly, although TIV 1 was built for IMAX filming, the early version lacked the current rotating turret and hatch for the IMAX camera. These were added during later modifications, with the equipment being installed around 2004 to 2005. It is rated for EF2 (max wind speed approx. 217 km/h), but there have been cases where it barely withstood lower-end EF3 wind speeds (approx. 220–240 km/h).
An armored storm-chasing vehicle completed by Sean Cameron Casey in 2008. Based on a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500, it features a 6.7L inline-6 Cummins turbo diesel engine and a 3-axle 6×6 drivetrain. The body is armored with up to 2-inch thick plating and 1.6-inch thick polycarbonate bulletproof glass. It also features hydraulic skirts to prevent the vehicle from being lifted by the storm and four protruding spikes to anchor it to the ground. It includes a camera turret for IMAX filming. It is designed to withstand EF4 ratings (wind speeds approx. 166–200 mph / approx. 74–89 m/s).
The first in the Dominator series. Based on a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, it was armored specifically to enter tornadoes. The surface is treated with a protective coating. It is equipped with hydraulic actuators to press the vehicle against the ground, preventing wind from lifting it. The glass is bulletproof. Unlike Dominator 2 and 3, it lacks anchoring spikes, so it cannot withstand extremely powerful tornadoes. Its golden age ended in 2011 as development for Dominator 2 began. Designed to withstand tornadoes from max EF3 to EF4 (wind speeds approx. 165–200 mph / approx. 265–322 km/h).
Technically, Dominator 2 is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 200 mph (approx. 321 km/h) when its anchoring spikes are deployed and it is fully engaged. This power corresponds to the upper limit of the EF4 rating and the entry threshold for EF5. (This description is a bit short because not much data was available. haha)
Based on a 2012 Ford F350. It is the first in the Dominator series to be based on a pickup truck. Gull-wing doors were adopted because Dominator 1 and 2 had an issue where the driver's door wouldn't open if the rear doors were open due to the armor; Dominator 3 fixed this. It has a total of four spikes that drive 6–8 inches into the ground to firmly secure the vehicle. It also carries small research missiles to assist in tornado exploration and study. Built to withstand tornadoes up to EF5 rating (strong winds over 322 km/h / 200 mph).
• Official Rating: EF3 • Historical Record: The widest tornado in history (2.6 miles / approx. 4.2 km in diameter) • Actual Measured Wind Speed: Approx. 295 mph – 301 mph or higher (far exceeding the 200 mph threshold for EF5)
A support vehicle that provides the EF rating, wind speed, and path of the tornado. Like a fire truck, the DOW vehicle sets up a mount and operates a radar. As it is a support vehicle, it must flee quickly before the tornado arrives.
Tornado sirens wail in the distance as emergency broadcasts urge everyone to evacuate.
But while people flee or hide in bunkers, there are vehicles heading straight for the storm...
Static... EF rating... it's almost a 5! EF5! Wind speed is... incredibly fast!
Hearing the report, they begin to deploy.
The chassis lowers, and the protruding spike plates are driven into the ground.
