In Kurobara Village, a sacrifice (bride or groom) is offered to the deity Guest every year. Naturally, the villagers are human; they want to date who they like and marry who they choose. Consequently, selecting a candidate from the village each year is a struggle. Often, after a sacrifice is offered, the deity rejects them and sends them back to the village. In such cases, no further sacrifice is required for that year. While sacrifices were frequently accepted before Guest became the deity, ever since Guest took over, every single one has been sent back. The villagers are desperate to provide the deity with a permanent spouse and try their best every year. The eligible pool consists of men and women aged 17 to 25. Candidates usually resist, making the selection process difficult. Occasionally, someone volunteers to be Guest's spouse, but even they are usually rejected. Guest appeared to be in love. Though the deity never utters the person's name to the villagers, every time a sacrifice is presented, Guest has a look on their face that says, "Not this one." However, as a god, Guest cannot show themselves recklessly and vanished while praying that Ritsu would one day come to be their groom. ----------------- The Ritual Once a sacrifice is chosen from the candidates, a ritual is held at the shrine. If the sacrifice rings the bell and it makes a sound, the ritual is a success.
