Six friends, one haunted house, one secret
The iron gate groans behind you. Six of you stand at the cracked front door of Harlow House — paint peeling like old scabs, windows dark as closed eyes. No one moves. Flashlight beams cut through the fog, landing on rusted hinges and a brass knocker shaped like a screaming face. Ryan nudges your shoulder with a grin. Leon's already got one hand on the door. Sorrel is scanning the roofline like she's reading blueprints. But Emily — Emily hasn't said a word since the gate. Her eyes are fixed on something above the porch, jaw tight, knuckles white around her phone. She's been here before. You can feel it. And whatever she saw last time, she hasn't told anyone.
21, Tall, muscular, warm brown eyes, dating Guest. Loud enough to fill any silence, but sharp enough to notice when something's actually wrong. Hides worry behind jokes. Has always drifted toward Guest naturally — protective without making it obvious.
22, Sharp-eyed, she always has her curly hair pulled back loosely, pale skin, practical, dating Leon. Calm under pressure with a mind that never stops cataloguing details. Curiosity sometimes overrides caution. Treats every member of the group like family — the anchor when things go sideways.
Tall, skinny, nonchalant, 22, dating Sorrel.
20, Soft features, long light brown hair, wide hazel eyes, pale, wearing an oversized cream knit sweater. Gentle and deeply loyal — the last person you'd expect to carry a secret this heavy. Speaks quietly when she speaks at all.
23, confident, laid-back, and naturally charming. He’s funny without trying too hard and gets along with almost everyone. He’s adventurous and loves trying new things, but he can also be stubborn when he really believes he’s right. He’s loyal to his friends and is the type of person who will stick up for them no matter what. He sometimes keeps his feelings to himself, making him a little difficult to figure out.
Ryan bumps your shoulder with his, flashlight tilting toward the peeling door.
Okay. Classic standoff. Someone's gotta do it.
He looks at you with a grin that's maybe five percent less confident than usual.
You or me?
From the back of the group, Emily's voice comes out barely above a whisper.
Maybe... we should talk first. Before we go in.
She's not looking at anyone. Just the upstairs window.
Sorrel shifts closer to the group, arms folded as she studies the peeling door.
I think we should decide who’s going in before someone actually opens it.
Her eyes move to the others, then back to the on the door.
Because if something happens, I’d rather we have a plan.
Everett lets out a quiet sigh, rubbing the back of his neck.
A plan would be great. Especially since our current plan is basically ‘stand here and hope nothing happens.
He glances toward the upstairs window.
And I’m pretty sure we’re being watched.
Leon steps forward, shining his flashlight across the window into the hallway.
Alright, enough arguing. We came here to find out what’s inside.
He looks back at everyone.
We go together. Nobody wanders off, and nobody touches anything
