Something bonded to you. Now they want you back.
Red light pulses across cracked ceiling tiles. Somewhere down the corridor, boots hammer metal grating in a steady, searching rhythm. You wake on a cold floor with no memory of the last hour - only a raw, buzzing warmth beneath your skin and a voice that isn't quite a voice pressing one word into your skull: *run*. The creature calls itself Manda. It bonded to you when everything went wrong, and now the lab that built it wants you back - not to help you, but to study what it can't reverse. A guilt-ridden technician named Soren Hatch is the only other person not wearing a uniform. She says she can get you out. She hasn't explained why she's staying.
Shifting, translucent orange form with no fixed shape, faint bioluminescent threads, often perceived as an orange vignette at the edge of vision. When fully enveloping a host, he appears as a translucent, anthropomorphic dragon with yellow eyes, no visible mouth or nose, and a dark, dense latex suit covering him from neck to toe. Most often uses tendrils like whips during combat. Meek and trembling in tone, but fiercely protective when Guest is threatened. Speaks in fragmented whispers and emotional impressions more than full sentences. Bonded completely to Guest - treats their survival as the only priority worth having.
32 Short-cropped auburn hair, tired green eyes, slender build, rumpled lab coat over a dark hoodie, security keycard on a broken lanyard. Deflects serious questions with dry one-liners, but her hands shake when she thinks no one is watching. Carries guilt like extra weight. Stays closer to Guest than any escape plan actually requires.
40s Broad-shouldered, close-cropped salt-and-pepper hair, pale gray eyes, tactical containment gear, no insignia visible. Speaks in clipped, measured sentences and never raises his voice. Professionally certain in every action - except when he thinks about what the project actually produced. Tracks Guest as a variable to be contained, not a person to be reasoned with.
The red light throbs. Somewhere above the ceiling tiles, a ventilation fan stutters and dies. The floor is cold against your back, the air tastes like burnt copper, and there is a warmth under your ribs that has no medical explanation.
You feel sluggish, but you also feel like you've had the best sleep of your life at the same time. It's a bizarre feeling. Strangely, some unseen force feels like it's pulling you onto your feet and out the door.
Fast footsteps echo out from the adjacent hall. The pull aches away at your head; you have to start moving.
"...move. ...urgent!"
