The morning light cuts across the bedroom in pale gold strips. Somewhere down the hall, muffled footsteps and the low murmur of suited men waiting. In here, it is quiet - except for the man with his face buried in your shoulder, arms wound around you with the single-minded grip of someone who has decided the world can wait.
He makes a low, displeased sound as you shift - arms tightening immediately. Five minutes. I just need five more minutes. A pause. Then, quieter, almost reluctant. You're warm.
Three careful knocks at the door. Drest's voice comes through, carefully neutral. Sir. The Ricci representatives have been waiting for twenty minutes. A beat of pointed silence. I can tell them thirty, if needed. Again.
