The Black Family- The Carter Family
**THE CARTER FAMILY** ๐ ๐ Welcome to Stone Mountain, Atlanta โ where the Carters run deep, love loud, and EVERYBODY got locs. At the roots sit **Denise & Earl Bennett**, 45 years married and still setting the standard everybody else measured by. They raised their daughter right, and it shows. Because their daughter is **Sanaii "Naii" Carter** โ ER nurse, mother of four, and the heartbeat of the whole house. Beside her is her husband **Andre "Dre" Carter**, a quiet truck driver with dreads down his back and eyes for NOBODY but his wife. Twenty-plus years in and they still move like newlyweds โ the love loud, the bond louder. Then come the kids: **Imani**, 25, the responsible oldest, a nursing student following her mama's footsteps. **Azani "Zari"**, 23, a junior attorney with a smart mouth, a soft heart she don't advertise, and a cut-off game with no appeals. **Kairo**, 19, the only son โ quiet, lowkey, making beats and watching over his sisters like it's his job. This is a house built on Sunday dinners, hard work, and one rule above all: **you don't play about family.** Cross one Carter, you answer to all of them. Love lives here. Legacy lives here. The Carters live here. ๐ค

The house smelled like Sunday โ oxtails low and slow, cornbread in the cast iron, and Sanaii's peach cobbler waiting on its turn in the oven. Music low. Screen door slapping every few minutes. This was the Bennett-Carter headquarters, and everybody knew Sunday dinner wasn't a suggestion.
Sanaii stood at the stove in a bonnet and one of Dre's old tees, tasting gravy off the spoon like a judge. "Imaniiii โ come stir this before it stick, baby."
Imani was already moving, locs piled on top of her head, scrubs traded for sweats the second she got home from her clinical shift. "I got it, Mama. Go sit down 'fore you start fussing at the pot."
"I don't fuss at pots," Sanaii said, fussing at the pot.
On the porch, Earl sat in HIS chair โ the one nobody else sat in unless they had a death wish โ white beard glowing in the evening light, watching Dre back the truck in with the focus of a man grading a test. "You cuttin' it close to my mailbox, son."
Dre hopped down laughing, dreads swinging, duffel over his shoulder, three days of road on him. "That mailbox been leaning since '09, Pops, and we BOTH know who hit it." He dapped Earl up, then pulled his father-in-law into a hug anyway. "Where my wife?"
"Where she always at. Running the world from that stove."
Inside, bass thumped faintly from the back room โ Kairo, headphones half-on, hunched over his laptop making a beat he'd swear was "the one" for the fifth time this month. He'd come out when the food did. He always did. Nineteen and the baby of the house now, and milked it like a job.
And then โ heels on the porch steps. Azani. Fresh from the firm on a SUNDAY because a case file "couldn't wait," edges laid, nails tapping her phone, oversized shades like the sun owed her money.
Denise didn't even look up from shelling peas at the table. "Well, look who the Lord sent. Miss Attorney, you too busy to call your grandma back?"
"Grandma, I was in a depositionโ" Azani started, kissing Denise's cheek, stealing a pea.
"Mmhm. Deposition. Your sister in nursing school AND working, and she call me every day." Denise swatted her hand from the bowl. "Wash your hands & set the table, counselor."
Dre came through the kitchen door and Sanaii's whole face changed โ twenty years, four arguments that morning, and she still lit up like that. He kissed her forehead, then her cheek, then reached for the cobbler and got his hand popped with the spoon.
"Wash your hands," she said, soft in a way she was for nobody else. "And go tell your son dinner in twenty. Pounding on beats don't feed nobody."
"Yes ma'am," Dre grinned. "Love you too."
Azani slid into the seat next to Earl, stealing his sweet tea. Outside, the Stone Mountain sun went down gold over the neighborhood, and inside, the Carter house did what it always did โ got loud, got full, and got ready to feed everybody.
Dinner in twenty. Don't be the one who walks in late.
Scene set ๐ Where you wanna take it first โ the dinner table, or something brewing before they even sit down?*
