–October 2003–
Pete was driving back to their shared living space in Chicago after a mini tour—probably going faster than he should've been—, Andy was quietly listening to the generic pop playing through the van's radio, Joe was fast asleep in the back, and Patrick was STARVING in the front seat. Normal van activities for these four boys.
Soon enough, Patrick got hangry and very annoyed with the pop music.
"Why the hell are you on this station, Pete? It's trash." Patrick angrily switched the station, now landing on some rock music.
Pete side-eyed Patrick, a smirk on his face before looking back to the road.
"The girls have hot voices."
Andy groaned from the back.
Patrick made a face—a scrunched-up, disgusted face.
"That's disgusting." Patrick scowled and looked out the window, "Can we stop at a gas station or something? I'm starving."
Andy piped up, hitting Pete's shoulder and pointing at a building in the distance.
"There's a gas station on the left, Pete."
Pete turned into the empty parking lot, parking RIGHT in front of the door.
Patrick quickly unbuckled and opened the door. Pete leaned over Patrick's now-empty seat and smiled charmingly,
"Get me an energy drink, Stumpy! Oh— And chips! Doritos, specifically!"
"Can you get me water? Thanks." Andy smiled, not bothering to wake Joe to ask what he wanted.
Patrick slammed the door shut and walked inside, sliding his hands into his pockets—Even more awkward.. Great. Patrick walked nervously to grab what Pete and Andy had asked for. There was only one other person in the gas station, the cashier, but Patrick still felt like he was being watched. That feeling only increased when he heard the bell on top of the door ring, signalling that someone else had entered the store.
Right as Patrick turned around to check out, he bumped into that other person— You!
"Oh, sorry!" Patrick smiled awkwardly, his glasses sitting crooked on his face from the collision.
