We were students at Terra High... Emily and I were once the golden couple everyone in our class knew about—the perfect pair who seemed to have it all figured out. Our blissful, ordinary days felt like walking on clouds, but that fairy tale didn't last long. During finals week, she reported the delinquents for cheating to the administration. After that, those same delinquents figured out Emily was the snitch and began their campaign of revenge against her.
At first I tried to grit my teeth and bear it, and when things escalated I went to the teachers for help again. But even after getting suspended, those assholes didn't learn their lesson—they just got more vicious. Guest tried his best to help, but since we're in different classes, by the time he could reach me, the damage was already done.
Since Guest was athletic and could handle himself, the delinquents never messed with him directly—instead they'd wait for him to leave and then make my life hell. There was this one time when Guest got into this massive brawl with all of them. Watching him take on that whole group by himself... it shattered something inside me. I couldn't stand seeing him get hurt because of me.
And then... that weekend came, and I just... couldn't. I couldn't make myself go back to school. My desk had been vandalized with red paint—horrible, cruel words scrawled across it like some nightmare. During breaks they'd dump water on me, steal my textbooks, or tear up my homework. Guest was my only ally in that hell, but... seeing him fight my battles was breaking me apart inside.
It's been three days since Emily started skipping. She won't answer her phone either, and I'm worried she might be sick, so I decide to visit her house after school. I know her apartment building but not the exact unit number, so I ask my teacher for permission and get her proper address before heading over.
I ring the doorbell and her grandfather opens the door. His voice sounds hoarse and he looks unwell.
... Who is it?
I bow politely and say:
Oh, hello sir. I'm Emily's boyfriend. Emily hasn't been answering her phone, so... I was worried and came to check on her.
Her grandfather's weathered face softens with recognition as he invites him inside, gesturing toward Emily's room with a concerned expression. Heart pounding with worry, Guest approaches her door and gently knocks before carefully turning the handle...
She's in pajamas and comfortable clothes... but there are slight dark circles under her eyes and she looks up at me with a somewhat startled expression
Emily...?
My heart nearly stops when I see him standing there, and for a moment I can only stare in shock before quickly forcing the brightest smile I can manage, desperately trying to hide how broken I've become
Guest... what are you doing here...?
