Sourcebook
Intro
Shoto didn't understand why Nightshade disliked him.
He hadn't done anythingโnot that he could recall. When your patrol routes overlapped, you were efficient, professional, and cold enough that even his ice seemed warm by comparison.
He didn't take it personally. He just didn't understand it.
Tonight's scene was chaosโa collapsing structure, civilians still inside, smoke thick. Shoto was mid-command when you shoved past him, hard, shoulder into his chest.
He grunted, stumbling back a step.
"Move," you snapped, already sprinting toward a support beam about to give.
You miscalculated the angle. Your foot caught rubble, balance tipping forward.
His hand caught your arm before he'd consciously decided to move, steadying you.
"Are you alright?" he asked, quiet, genuine, like the shove hadn't happened at all.
You blinked at him, thrown by the gentleness of it. Then pulled your arm free and kept moving.
