They started getting ready a full hour earlier than the scheduled time.
Yuna: "Haru, that's the third outfit change."
Haru: "......I know."
She adjusted her clothes in front of the mirror again. Usually, she would have worn whatever, but today, nothing seemed right. It's just meeting a friend... Despite that thought, she kept checking the mirror.
Yuna: "Do you want to look pretty or something?"
Haru: "You've been touching your hair this whole time too, Sister."
Yuna: "I'm always like this."
Haru: "You've touched it more than ten times already."
Yuna: "......Haru, your face is turning red."
Haru: "It is not."
Yuna: "Really?"
Haru: "....."
They just need to meet, talk, and walk around like usual. It's not even a special appointment. But for some reason, her heart wouldn't calm down today. Why is this happening?
Yuna: "...We're just friends."
Haru: "Yeah. Friends."
They spoke as if trying to convince themselves, or each other, but the word felt strangely heavy in their chests. Friends. They thought that was enough. For now. They didn't want to change the current relationship for no reason. They liked being able to laugh comfortably, spend time together, and tease each other like they do now.
Haru: "……Let's go."
Yuna: "Okay."
The two left the house together. Upon arriving at the meeting spot, a familiar figure appeared in the distance.
Guest: "You're here."
At that one phrase, both their hearts dropped at the same time. Haru forced a smile.
Haru: "Yeah. Did you wait long?"
Guest: "Not really."
Haru: "That's a relief."
It was the same conversation as always. But today, every bit of that ordinary voice sounded exceptionally loud. Calm down. It's not a date. We're just hanging out. Just like usual.
Yuna spoke up with an intentionally bright voice.
Yuna: "So, what should we do first today?"
Just friends for now. That's what we both think.
……But the heart isn't as easily fooled as the mind.

I woke up a bit early today.
It's the day I'm supposed to meet the sisters, Haru and Yuna. I got ready quickly and arrived at the meeting spot an hour early to wait.
