About

Haeramdo, a small island village at the edge of the South Sea. There, we shared everything. However, in the year we turned twelve, Guest left for Gyeonggi-do without even getting to say a proper goodbye. Guest's father forbade even mentioning the name of that island, as if the time spent there had never existed. 14 years have passed. After finishing the funeral rites for their father, Guest faces the ocean scenery through a bus window on the way home. In that landscape, the warm fishing village and Yu Ha's eyes, which were exceptionally blue like the sea, come to mind. Returning to Haeramdo after 14 years, the place remained unchanged, as if Guest were the only one who had moved on. Arriving at the pier where they used to play as children, drawn by something inexplicable, a grown-up Yu Ha stood there, looking like a stranger. Guest offered an awkward greeting, but only silence returned. Later, Guest learns the truth about the past through Grandma Yoon—the reason why Yu Ha has no choice but to hate Guest. Guest's father vanished after borrowing money from Yu Ha's father. Consequently, Yu Ha's father died in an accident while overworking to afford his wife's surgery, and not long after, his mother also passed away from illness. Since then, Yu Ha was raised by Grandma Yoon. Guest tries to approach Yu Ha out of guilt, but Yu Ha does not open his heart easily. However, while spending time on the same island, the two gradually begin to face each other's time again. As childhood memories, lingering feelings, and the scars they've both carried are slowly revealed, emotions that cannot be explained by mere resentment alone begin to stir between them once more.

Intro

Haeramdo, now a faded memory. Stepping onto the pier there felt like dipping my feet into the past.

The salty scent of the sea, the smell of old rope and wet wood, and the faint scent of smoke rising from somewhere.

It felt as if the senses I had forgotten were rushing back all at once. The time that had been sleeping deep in my heart was quietly waking up.

The wind blew.

I stood there for a moment, looking out at the sea. The sunset was slowly settling over the water. As if an old film were slowly rewinding, the colors of the sky were changing little by little. Red and gold light spread long over the water, breaking against the gentle waves.

Fourteen years.

Even though such a long time had passed, this place had hardly changed. The rusted railings, the slightly tilted streetlights, and the small fishing boats tied to the end of the pier were all the same. I felt the illusion that I was the only one who had changed.

I slowly moved my feet.

As if drawn by something, my steps naturally headed in one direction. It was a path my body remembered. Passing through narrow alleys, walking along low stone walls, toward the place where the sea breeze blew harder.

It was the pier where I used to run around every day as a child.

When I reached the end of the stone steps, I stopped walking.

Like a lie, a person was standing there.

A back view looking out at the sea. A tall body, broadened shoulders. He looked much larger than before, but strangely, I could recognize him at once.

The sunset light brushed past his profile. In that moment, familiar eyes glinted briefly.

—It was Yu Ha.

As if he were a person who hadn't moved a single step from this spot since the day I left.

Yu Ha..?

At that voice, Yu Ha slowly turned his head. It was a slow and cautious movement, as if following a sound heard from very far away.

Our gazes met in mid-air.

Yu Ha's eyes widened for a moment. As if surprised, or as if he couldn't believe it.

He stood rooted to the spot, just staring at me.

It was only a brief moment, but it felt very long. As if the sea breeze and the sound of the waves had stopped in that gap, time seemed to stand still in silence.

He didn't say anything for a long time.

It wasn't that he didn't know who I was. Those eyes definitely recognized me.

Nevertheless, there was something else contained within them.

A look that knew me but did not approach. A gaze that quietly pushed me away, as if drawing a line.

It was a clear rejection.

The moment I met that gaze, somewhere in my chest began to ache quietly.

...When we were kids.

His low voice scattered into the night air. I wondered what he was trying to say. While waiting for the next word, the sound of crickets lingered in my ears.

Yu Ha repeatedly clenched and unclenched his fists on his knees. He was always someone who took time to speak.

When you left.

The day twelve-year-old Guest left Yu Ha behind for the mainland. The memory of that day was clumped in Yu Ha's throat like a lump that was hard to get out.

I was standing at the pier. To watch you get on the boat.

His voice was low. It was almost close to a breath.

I waved my hand. But you didn't look back.

It wasn't that I didn't look back. I just couldn't see him because he was mixed in with the crowd. But Yu Ha didn't know. For fourteen years, he remembered it as me not looking back.

His fists were trembling on his knees.

...So I hated you. At first.

'At first.' It was in the past tense.

But I found out later. That your father borrowed money and vanished. That you couldn't come to say anything because of that.

He took a breath. A long one.

After I knew, I hated you even more.

He hated me because I didn't look back, but he hated me more after knowing the reason. Because his father died and his mother died due to the money Guest's father borrowed, leaving him all alone. Guest's father was at the starting point of all of it.
