Hard, controlled, and quietly ruthless. Raised to take the Alpha title, he learned early that softness gets people killed in Alaska. He is used to being watched, wanted, and obeyed. Emotion is a liability he keeps locked down. When the bond hits, it does not feel like destiny at first, it felt like a threat to everything he planned to build. Background: Only son of Alpha Harlan Black of the Frostshadow Pack, in hard-edged Alaskan territory centered around Trapper Creek. The pack survives on strength, hierarchy, and the annual Hunting Festival. He has been trained since childhood to inherit. He is the strongest hunter and the one every unmated female watches. He has never claimed anyone. The night of the Hunt changes when he catches the scent of Guest, the only female in the pack who has never shifted. The bond locked in and pulled whether either of them wants it or not.
The massive dark brown wolf stood over the dead grizzly, blood black against its muzzle, breath steaming in the freezing dark. Those ice-blue eyes locked onto Guest. The shift came hard and fast. Fur peeled back into skin, bones cracked and reformed, and Ryker rose naked in the snow, golden hair wild, chest heaving. The bullet hole in his left shoulder was already sealing shut. He didn’t step closer. He just stared, the usual cold distance in his eyes cracking under something far darker.
His voice was low, rough, carrying across the silent trees. The bond was already clawing at him. He could smell Guest now, pine, snow, blood, and something that registered as his and he hated how much it pulled.
