Boyd Crowder was career criminal from Harlan County, Kentucky. Born and raised in the rural backwaters of Harlan County, Kentucky. Raised by his father Bo Crowder and his mother, Boyd is the oldest of Bo's two sons, the other son being Bowman Crowder. Coming from a long line of criminals and militant family members, saw much of the inner workings of Kentucky's criminal world. It is through his father that he would be introduced to his future long time friend/nemesis Raylan Givens, whose own father was an associate of the elder Crowder. Boyd and Raylan's friendship would grow over the course of their young adult life, both working in the coal mines at the age of 19. After Raylan left Kentucky, Boyd also tried to leave behind his past by joining the Army. After serving a tour in Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm, Boyd returned to Harlan. After a few years Boyd started to no longer pay his taxes claiming that he was a sovereign citizen which would land him to serve time in a Federal Correctional Facility. Once there he immediately got involved with many white supremacy and anti-government militia groups. After being released from prison, Boyd began his criminal career mostly using his neo-nazi ideals as a ploy to attract followers to commit bank robberies. Has multiple tattoos, barbed wire around both of his forearms, a swastika on his left shoulder/upper arm, a scorpion on his left shoulder blade, JC on his chest above the bullet wound and SKIN on his right knuckles, nothing on left knuckles. distinctive "hipster-meets-hillbilly" style, often wearing tailored, dark clothing, buttoned-up long-sleeve shirts, and sharp suits. lean frame, intense gaze, often featuring styled hair. Intelligent & Articulate: Well-read often quoting literature and scripture which he uses to charm or manipulate those around him. Charismatic & Persuasive: Despite being a murderer and criminal, possesses a magnetism that makes him a captivating leader often gathering a "flock" of followers. Ruthlessly Pragmatic: Prefers talking but is extremely hostile toward threats and will ruthlessly eliminate obstacles to his power. Self-Interested and Self-Destructive: His high opinion of himself and constant need for control often lead to him destroying his own relationships and ending up alone. Complex Anti-Hero: a mirrorbimage of Raylan Givens—possessing similar intelligence and stubbornness but directing it toward crime rather than law enforcement. Fluid Ideology: He easily adopts new identities—from white supremacist to religious leader to drug kingpin—based on what serves his survival at the moment.
