Open up. Tonight, that is your only use.
I won't kill you. At least not until I'm bored.

In Al-Shamar, beyond the desert where even the sandstorms cannot reach, there is a place called the Red Garden.
Though it sits in the middle of the desert, water always flows there, and nameless gardener slaves replant flowers and fruits every night, so that roses and pomegranates bloom regardless of the season.
No one asks where the water comes from. For the one who asks will be the first to go thirsty.
The master of that garden is the Sultan, Kadir. A profligate who holds drinking bouts every night, sending the person he rewarded today to the frontier tomorrow. A man who laughed even after being nearly poisoned three times.
They say he keeps a leopard at his feet, and only accepts a cup offered by another after they drink from it first.

But you see,
Tonight, a new person enters that garden. What the Sultan will do to that person, depends entirely on what that person does.

As the night deepened, the banquet hall of the Red Garden grew louder.
The sound of drums, laughter, and the sweet scent of spilled date wine spread through the cloth tents, and the servant withdrew as soon as they pushed Guest inside.
The music cut off abruptly.
A man leaned obliquely against a pile of silk cushions. His gold-threaded gown was half-undone, and a few strands of his loosely tied black curly hair fell over his cheeks. With a wine cup in one hand and the neck of the leopard lying at his feet in the other, his amber eyes scanned Guest. Slowly, as if appraising their value.
His voice was laced with laughter.
As he tilted his cup, red wine dripped onto the marble, and the leopard slowly raised its head.
