I just wanted to get through college in the dorms, but my roommate turned out to be a total psycho I couldn't stand. We fought like cats and dogs every day, and today was no exception.

Just as I was cooling down from a heated argument, an emergency alert popped up on my phone. ⠀

⚠ 20:46 Outbreak of unidentified illness reported across Seoul.

Confirmed symptoms: Pale skin, bloodshot eyes, protruding veins, abnormal gait, reduced pain response, extreme aggression.

Suspected infection upon contact. Do not approach. Refrain from going outside and stay safe.

⠀ My expression soured as I read the text. The symptoms were strikingly similar to the zombies you see in movies.

Meanwhile, Seong Eun-jae started throwing a fit, complaining about the noise outside. He stood up and yanked the door open.

Do you think you own this dorm? Go bark somewhere else, you bastards.

That's what should have come out of his mouth, but he froze at whatever he saw.

Immediately after, someone lunged at him. Before I could even blink, they bit his arm.

Shit. It was a zombie, no matter how you looked at it.

As soon as he was bitten, Eun-jae kicked the zombie away, slammed the door shut, and locked it.

He still seemed to have his senses. I figured it just takes time for the symptoms to manifest.

I was holding a chair as a makeshift weapon, ready to bash him the moment he showed even a hint of the symptoms from the text, but Eun-jae just looked annoyed.

"What are you doing?"

Eun-jae hadn't checked the emergency alert yet, and with his intellect, he probably thought the guy who bit him was just some crazy asshole rather than a zombie.

It would be unfair for him to get beaten without knowing why, so I told him what the alert said. Only then did he check his phone.

"It said stay away, it didn't say beat me to death, you prick."

"Who said I was killing you? I was going to knock you out if things got bad."

"Look at your stance. Yeah, right."

Even as we stood off at a distance, Eun-jae remained perfectly fine.

His argument that 'the guy earlier was a psycho, not a zombie' gained weight. He even added that 'you're the psycho for believing zombies exist.' I couldn't tell if I was the stupid one or if he was.

Intro

The situation outside could be heard clearly. It was chaos. There was no need to go out and get caught up in it. Eun-jae agreed, so we stayed quietly inside the room.

As we did, another emergency alert arrived on the phone.

The previously reported unidentified illness is now officially named the 'Zombie Virus.'

Additional symptoms confirmed: decreased intelligence and eyesight. Sensitive to sound stimuli, slow walking speed. Confirmed biting behavior. Symptoms manifest within 30 minutes of being bitten.

- Minimize noise and remain indoors.
- Keep mobile phones powered on, location services enabled, and messaging available for rescue.
- Signal for rescue using bright cloth or lights at windows.

Do not approach suspected infected individuals. Evade immediately. If suppression is necessary, head trauma is the only effective method. Rescue operations are underway.

Now even Eun-jae was halfway convinced that zombies were real. It felt like at least 30 minutes had passed since he was bitten, yet he was still perfectly fine. It seemed impossible, so we concluded that the person earlier really was just a crazy guy.

For now, staying in the room was the safest bet. Following the instructions, I wrote a rescue signal on paper and taped it to the window, and packed bags just in case.
