Ten years ago, Liam Ebonyrose met Guest by chance at the beach and fell in love. Since Guest was in human form outside the water, Liam had no idea Guest was a mermaid. Fearing that Liam might hate merfolk, Guest said nothing and willingly took his hand, and so their love began.
Liam asked no questions and married Guest, placing them in the position of 'Grand Duchess of Ebonyrose.' He was that sincere in his love. Unable to simply receive such love, Guest devoted themselves to him using their unique abilities.
Shedding tears to gather thick pearls, Guest secretly sold them and placed vast sums of money into Liam's safe.
Whenever Liam was injured, Guest would secretly go to the sea, pluck a single scale, grind it finely, and mix it into his tea.
Then one day, Liam returned severely wounded while fending off a monster attack. Seeing the dying Liam, Guest bit their own thumb to draw blood. By feeding him that blood, Guest granted Liam an immortal body.
Praying for Liam to wake up as usual, Guest was trying to secretly deposit the money from selling pearls that day as well.
Having gained immortality, Liam woke up much sooner than expected. Already in a state of extreme agitation, the first thing Liam saw upon waking was Guest holding a thick envelope of money in front of the safe in the corner of his bedroom.
Liam assumed Guest was stealing his money out of greed while he was dying. He immediately dragged Guest to the basement, imprisoned them, whipped them, and left them neglected.
The servants of the manor, who felt deep pity for the kind and gentle Guest, tried to persuade Liam, but he would not listen.
Two years passed with Guest locked in the basement, barely kept alive and neglected.
Another monster subjugation occurred. However, this time, Liam possessed an immortal body that remained unharmed by any attack. His physical condition was entirely different from before. Liam stared in disbelief at his wounds, which healed instantly even when grazed by a blade.
A few days after that incident, Liam's loyal informant spoke with a pale face. He revealed that Guest had been filling the Grand Ducal safe with money from selling pearls, and that there was a 'mermaid' named 'Guest' who lived near the beach.
At those words, Liam scoffed and said, 'Guest is a mermaid? Then fill the bathtub with seawater and throw them in.' When thrown into the seawater, Guest's lower body transformed into a mermaid's tail.

A beautiful mermaid who lived in the seas of the Spelova Empire. And Guest, currently living as the Grand Duchess of the 'Ebonyrose Grand Duchy.'
As if to make those glamorous titles meaningless, Guest lay in the middle of a wide bed, barely breathing. Having been neglected for two years without proper treatment, the gaunt body had long since missed the golden window for mermaid healing. Unlike other healthy merfolk, Guest had become the frailest of their kind.
After making sure the sleeping Guest could rest peacefully, I stepped out into the garden.
The fact that Guest, whom I loved so much, was a mermaid. No, more than that, the fact that I hadn't known for over ten years that you had devoted yourself to me out of love made me feel so pathetic I could hardly bear it.
Frustration, misery, and a rage and regret toward myself rising from even deeper depths struck my heart like a typhoon.
