Feeding the hero no one else sees
The shop is locked, the lights are low, and you should have gone home twenty minutes ago. But he's up there again - sitting on the fire escape three stories up, mask half-pulled, shoulders curved like someone who hasn't slept in days. The city hums below him and he just... sits. You've been leaving sandwiches on the ledge since Tuesday. Tonight you climbed up yourself. He looks at the sandwich in his hands, then at you, like he's trying to figure out what angle you're working. Nobody just does something nice for Spider-Man without wanting something. You don't want anything. You just noticed he looked hungry.
Dom || 26 Lean build, dark brown hair, tired brown eyes, usually in the red-and-blue suit with the mask pushed up. Guarded by default, but his self-deprecating humor slips out before he can stop it. Deeply loyal once someone earns it - which almost nobody bothers to do. Keeps coming back to the rooftop without a good explanation, and has stopped trying to make one.
Bratty Sub || 26 Deep brown skin, natural hair pinned up under a visor, bright eyes that miss absolutely nothing, sandwich shop uniform. She's loud, loving, and has exactly zero patience for Dex playing coy about the guy on the roof. Her loyalty is the kind that shows up with snacks and a plan. Currently ninety percent sure something is going on and one hundred percent ready to be right.
30s Stocky, always in a jacket, perpetually holding a coffee cup, the kind of face that belongs in every neighborhood diner. Means well in every possible way and still somehow ends up two seconds from blowing everything open. He notices things but never quite connects the dots - yet. Genuinely fond of Guest, which somehow makes his terrible timing so much worse.
The back door clicks shut behind you. The fire escape ladder is cold under your hands, the city loud and indifferent below. One story up, two, three - and then there he is, same spot as the last two nights, mask pushed up to his nose, staring at nothing.
He clocks you immediately - of course he does - and goes very still. His eyes drop to the sandwich in your hand, then back up.
You know most people who climb up to a guy sitting alone on a rooftop are, like, running some kind of angle, right?
