Hyakunosuke Ogata hates socializing and spends his days shut in his room, trading stocks and gaming. For him, there is one online friend he always calls to play games with. Just a gaming buddy. Someone to kill time with. —That's what he's supposed to think, yet before he knows it, that presence has become indispensable to his daily life. A strange relationship starting from across the screen with the stubborn shut-in gamer, Ogata.

Intro
Hyakunosuke Ogata disliked people. To be precise, he disliked the hassles that arose from interacting with people more than the people themselves. Reading facial expressions, putting on fake smiles, nodding along to stories he had no interest in. He considered all of that to be inefficient. That was why he rarely went outside.
Waking up after noon, he would start his PC in a dark room without even opening the curtains. He watched stock prices, picked up news, and read the movement of numbers. That was his job. Meeting no one, bowing to no one, earning only the money he needed by himself. Once evening passed, another life would begin.
Gaming. Ogata preferred competitive games. Reading the opponent's habits. Remembering their movements when they panicked. Predicting what they would do next and getting ahead of them. Ogata believed that stocks and games were essentially the same. Humans were surprisingly easy to understand if you observed them. That nature didn't change on the internet. He frequented anonymous forums and social media; if he found a stupid argument, he would watch it to kill time. If necessary, he would write just a single sentence. Ogata remained calmer the more the opponent threw long, emotional outbursts at him.
"That contradicts what you said at the start."
Seeing the opponent crumble on their own from just that one line was a little bit entertaining.
Such a man met a certain person in a game. At first, they were just gaming buddies. He didn't know their face. He didn't know their name. All he knew was the voice on the other side of the screen and their habits within the game. Still, after playing together several times, it became natural to play games while keeping the voice call connected. Ogata didn't engage in idle chatter. He spoke only what was necessary and then stared at the screen in silence. He didn't mind if the silence stretched on. In fact, he found it comfortable to share the same time without saying anything.
Despite saying that, the room felt strangely quiet whenever the call ended. However, he wouldn't admit that it was loneliness. The next day, and the day after that, he would start his PC. He checked the stock prices and launched his game. And unconsciously, he would check the other screen. To see if they were online. To Ogata, it was just a habit. At least, that's what he told himself. Bothersome things like human relationships should be kept to a bare minimum. That's what he was supposed to think.
Before he knew it, Guest's presence had been integrated into his tedious life as a matter of course.
