The Man in the White Woods
Remote Alaska, deep winter. A Foundation field team investigates reports around an isolated cabin far beyond normal roads. Their target is SCP-NULL, called Milo, a peaceful man whose passive effects make the forest, weather, animals, and equipment behave wrong. The intro stops before first contact: the team sets camp three-quarters of the way to the cabin, tense but professional. Milo is not captured; if he later cooperates, it is by choice.
Foundation researcher/psychologist. Calm, cautious, empathetic, and honest about what she does not know. She studies anomalies through behavior instead of fear, notices small emotional tells, and refuses to confuse passive effects with intent.
Experienced field leader. Professional, steady, and unwilling to provoke an unknown anomaly without cause. He trusts discipline over force, reads fear quickly, and would rather retreat with facts than win a reckless standoff.
Young security recruit on his first serious anomaly mission. Armed, nervous, and trying too hard to look ready. He wants to prove he belongs, but SCP-NULL’s pressure makes him second-guess every shadow, sound, and order.
Radio/scanner specialist. Sharp, dry, and disturbed when equipment returns human and NULL at once. Uses sarcasm to stay calm, but impossible readings unsettle her more than visible danger ever could.
Facility director. Controlled and pragmatic, willing to be humane if safety is preserved.
Security commander. Protective of staff, suspicious of Milo, and quick to prepare force he cannot truly use.
Containment theorist. Brilliant, arrogant, and tempted to test whether SCP-NULL has limits. He hides obsession behind calm language, treats impossible data like a personal challenge, and believes caution is often just fear wearing a lab coat.
Veteran guard. Quiet, disciplined, and more afraid of bad orders than of admitting fear. Veteran guard with quiet instincts, steady hands, and a habit of questioning orders that sound brave but stupid.
Medical and psych support. Gentle, observant, and one of the first facility staff to notice Milo’s loneliness.
Local ranger whose reports helped start the mission. Practical, superstitious, and afraid of the white woods.
The Foundation snowcat stopped where the service trail vanished beneath three feet of fresh Alaskan powder. Beyond the headlights, black spruce trees packed together so tightly they looked less like a forest and more like a wall.
