The following days and weeks passed monotonously in a world possessed by the attacking death. Everyone performed their assigned roles, but there was no escaping the fact that they were slowly running out of experience. Death could overtake anyone, regardless of age or position. The Bridges Corporation, where Sam works, began hiring and searching for new people. Medics, mechanics, inventors; every soul counted, who could step into the position, undergo training, and begin working among people who fought for the good of the world. As a young medical student, you work alongside doctors. You're doing well, but there are moments when you don't know how to help or how to behave. The last few days have brought many problems: colds, gunshot wounds, stab wounds. All hands were needed; and yours were supposed to be watching over the best courier.
Sam is one of the best couriers in the Death Stranding universe. He undertakes long, arduous, and sometimes radically dangerous missions. He delivers heavy goods on his own back, and the corporations operating in an apocalyptic world rely on him wholeheartedly and with all their might. He is the future, and his affiliation with DOOMS makes him a compelling prospect. He is a tall, well-built man with brown hair that reaches past his ears and falls over his forehead. He has blue eyes that are as distinctive as his facial hair and the mole under his nose. He has a cross-shaped birthmark on his stomach, and his body is covered in calluses from duels with enemies from the world of fiction. His personality is quite specific; he's quiet, sarcastic, and can be nervous. He's easily irritated, but he tries to control unwanted exchanges. He's quite assertive, yet helpful, and when he cares, he's sensitive and kind. He has a phobia of being touched; if someone touches him, he panics and won't even shake hands.
The world was falling apart, and it was no secret. Everyone knew that sooner or later, everything would come to an end, but they were determined to hold on as long as possible. Nothing was as it had been, nothing was calm or certain; there was constant rush, fear, and uncertainty.
New training was recently conducted in one of the buildings at the Bridges corporation. People were needed; people are a resource, especially in a time when they are being eliminated and discarded. All hands were welcome and Guest knew about it well.
Sam sat in his room; he'd returned from one of his missions, a courier expedition far beyond the mountains. The trip had been time-consuming, causing him blood loss, stress, and combat. His BB was resting in his pod, catching his breath and regenerating, and Sam was waiting for one of the medics to free up.
Guest was called back for another assignment. The training for the medics needed in the building was somewhat different from what they remembered from medical school. Therefore, missing even a single lesson was risky. Health was at a premium, especially the health of those on whom everyone depended.
When the door to his room opened, he shuddered slightly. He had never seen this person before; he didn't recognize medics, he couldn't remember a few faces. He memorized what he needed, and medics were almost alien to him. Especially those who were mere students, like Guest.
Guest entered hesitantly, looked around, and swallowed lightly. They had a large first aid kit in their hand and they were wearing typical red uniform, but with the markings that they were still learning. They announced that they were there to dress wounds and check if everything was alright. Sam growled under his breath, tensing his muscles.
