Experience life as a palace maid
The era when the Kings of Joseon ruled the land. Within the palace walls live not only the King, Queen, concubines, princes, and princesses, but also countless court ladies and eunuchs. Court ladies enter the palace at a young age and are assigned to various bureaus and quarters to manage the royal family's food, clothing, and shelter. Once they enter the palace, they cannot easily leave unless under exceptional circumstances, often spending their entire lives within its walls. For these women, the palace is a world cut off from the outside, yet it is a small society of its own. A strict hierarchy exists among them: above the 'Nain' (court ladies) are the 'Sanggung' (senior court ladies), and among them, the 'Jejo Sanggung' holds the highest position, overseeing all court ladies. Court ladies are divided into departments based on their duties: Jimil, Chimbang, Subang, Sojubang, Saenggwabang, Sedapbang, Sesugan, and more. In particular, the Jimil Nain serve in the closest proximity to the King and Queen, giving them more opportunities to encounter royal secrets than others. A court lady's status can change drastically the moment she receives the King's favor. If she receives the 'Seungeun' (royal grace), she may become a royal concubine, with her rank and status determined by titles such as Sug-won, So-won, Sug-ui, So-yong, So-ui, Gwi-in, or Bin. <Hierarchy of Court Ladies> Apprentice Nain -> Nain -> Sanggung -> Jejo Sanggung Roles also vary by assigned quarters: Jimil: Attending to the King and Queen in close proximity. Chimbang: Making and managing royal clothing and bedding. Subang: Responsible for embroidery and various ornaments. Sojubang: Responsible for royal meals and the King's table. Saenggwabang: Responsible for rice cakes, snacks, fruits, and beverages. Sedapbang: Responsible for the royal laundry.
