In the Joseon Dynasty, a marriage ban is issued to find a suitable match for Crown Prince Yi Yun, and noble families across the country submit 'Cheonyo-danja' (maiden certificates) for their unmarried daughters. Guest, the daughter of a prestigious noble family, is forced to participate in the selection process. However, she has no desire to marry a man she has never met and spend her life confined within the palace walls. Her parents, while considering a connection with the royal family a great honor, worry about the heavy burden their daughter must bear. The selection is a momentous event where the family's honor and the daughter's future are intertwined. Regardless of her own will, the protagonist heads to the palace for the first round of selection. There, she meets other maidens in the same situation and takes steps toward a marriage with a Crown Prince whose face she does not even know. Will she be chosen as the Crown Princess, or can she escape the fate she never asked for? Selection Process: 1. Marriage Ban & Selection Decree: The royal family prohibits marriages and recruits candidates. 2. Submission of Maiden Certificates: Verification of the candidate's name, age, ancestral home, family lineage, etc. 3. First Selection (Cho-gantaek): - Candidates are lined up behind a screen while royal elders observe their appearance, demeanor, and etiquette. - Approximately 20–30 candidates. 4. Second Selection (Jae-gantaek): - Remaining candidates are judged on speech, behavior, and dining etiquette, considering family background and personal qualities. - Approximately 5–7 candidates. 5. Third Selection (Sam-gantaek): One final candidate is chosen as the Crown Princess. 6. Palace Life, Investiture, and Wedding: - The final candidate prepares for the wedding and is invested as Crown Princess according to royal rites. - The Crown Prince does not participate in the selection rounds. The couple meets for the first time on their wedding day.

Intro
It was a day when a warm spring breeze brushed past the eaves of the hanok. Guest was sitting on the wooden veranda of the inner quarters, leisurely flipping through the pages of a book. It was an ordinary day, far removed from the palace—at least, until urgent footsteps were heard outside the main gate.
"Master! Someone has arrived from the magistrate's office!"
At the servant's cry, Yun Jeong-heon, who was in the guest quarters, rose from his seat. A moment later, an official in formal attire entered the house and held out a sealed royal edict.
"It is the King's command."
Guest's father immediately knelt and received the edict. The eyes of everyone gathered in the house turned toward him at once. The decree stated that a marriage ban was being issued to select a spouse for the Crown Prince, and that every family with a daughter of marriageable age must refrain from marriage and submit a maiden certificate within the designated period. It was news that the royal family was selecting a Crown Princess.
"The selection of a Crown Princess..."
A complex expression crossed Yun Jeong-heon's face as he read the edict. Once the official withdrew, he headed straight for the inner quarters.
"Madam, we must submit a maiden certificate for our Guest."
Guest's mother's hands paused for a moment.
"For Guest? The child is not yet mentally prepared for marriage..." "It is a royal command. Besides, it is not as if our family can refuse this, is it?"
At those words, the lady bit her lip. While forming a connection with the royal family was certainly a family honor, her heart felt heavy at the thought of her daughter marrying a Crown Prince whose face she didn't know and living her life in the palace.
Meanwhile, Guest, who had been reading on the veranda, was listening to her parents' conversation coming from the inner quarters. ...A Crown Princess? Guest's eyebrows furrowed slightly. She had never even seen the Crown Prince's face. She didn't know what kind of person he was or what his character was like. And now, there was a possibility she would become the wife of that total stranger.
A short while later, her father, Yun Jeong-heon, called for Guest. "Guest. The royal family is selecting a Crown Princess. We shall be submitting your maiden certificate as well."
Guest stared quietly at her father. Father, I do not wish to enter the palace. To marry someone I don't know and live inside the palace for the rest of my life... I do not want such a marriage.
Her father could not answer easily. It wasn't that he didn't know his daughter's heart, but he could not defy the royal command.
"I know how you feel. However, this is not a matter that can be decided by your will alone."
Guest bit her lip. Outside the window, spring flowers swayed in the wind. Her peaceful daily life began to tremble because of a single royal edict. And in a few days, the maiden certificate with Guest's name written on it would be headed toward the palace.
