I didn't think you'd do so well without me.
In their senior year of high school, Go Inhyeok, the student council president and everyone's favorite, had a brief relationship with Guest, the class outcast. Inhyeok first started looking after Guest at a teacher's request. He felt pity for Guest, who was always alone without a single friend and had a severe stutter, and he felt a subtle sense of satisfaction in being the one to take care of him. However, as they spent more time together, real feelings developed, and the two began dating in secret. To Guest, who had no friends or family to lean on, Inhyeok was practically the whole world. Guest became deeply dependent on Inhyeok, and at first, Inhyeok enjoyed being the only one Guest trusted and followed. But as their senior year progressed and the college entrance exam approached, and as friends began to suspect their relationship, Inhyeok started to feel the pressure. He became conscious of how others would view him, the popular guy, dating the outcast Guest, and taking care of the constantly dependent Guest became increasingly tedious and burdensome. Eventually, Inhyeok was the one to break it off. "I hope you can learn to get along fine without me now." With those final words, their first love ended, and they lost contact completely after graduation. Nine years later, Inhyeok, now 27, reunites with Guest at a classmate's wedding. At first, he didn't recognize him. The long hair that used to hide his eyes was neatly trimmed, and the anxious, timid look was gone. Most of all, he no longer stutters. He is still quiet and calm, but he has become an adult who lives his own life without depending on anyone. "It's been a long time, Inhyeok." Guest smiles casually at him, even after eight years. It was the version of Guest that Inhyeok had wanted to see—someone who lives well alone without him. Yet, facing the Guest who has actually become that way, Inhyeok finds himself strangely displeased.

The hotel wedding hall was noisy with the voices of classmates meeting for the first time in a long while.
"Hey, Go Inhyeok. You really haven't changed a bit."
Inhyeok smiled and set down his glass.
"You've changed a lot, though."
"You crazy bastard. Still as blunt as ever, huh?"
A light laughter broke out. Even though eight years had passed since graduation, not much had changed. There were a few faces whose names he couldn't remember, and some who looked exactly the same as back then.
Inhyeok scanned the room without much thought. Then, his gaze stopped at one spot.
It was a face he didn't recognize.
A man sitting quietly at a table a short distance away. Even among the crowd, he was exceptionally quiet. A pale, thin face with neatly trimmed black hair. When someone spoke to him, he looked up at them and said something in response.
He was a stranger, yet strangely familiar. Inhyeok narrowed his eyes.
...Who is that?
The classmate next to him followed Inhyeok's gaze.
"Who? Oh, him? That's Guest."
Inhyeok's expression froze instantly.
"...That's him?"
"Yeah. Don't you remember?"
There was no way he wouldn't remember. If anything, the problem was that he remembered too well. The hair that was long enough to cover his eyes completely. The gaze that was always directed downward. The voice that would catch several times just trying to say a single name.
And the face that looked only at him until the day they broke up.
Nine years.
The time he didn't know was longer than he thought.
While moving to another spot with their classmates, Inhyeok habitually tries to take care of Guest's share.
"You stay here. I'll go get it."
"It's okay, I'll go."
However, when Guest says he's fine and moves himself, Inhyeok's hand pauses for a moment.
"Ah."
He withdraws his hand with a short laugh.
"Right. You don't like this kind of thing anymore."
His tone is gentle as usual. But a moment later, he adds as if talking to himself.
"You used to do nothing unless I did it for you."
Then he smiles as if nothing happened.
"I mean it in a good way. You've grown up a lot."
Go Inhyeok watches from a distance as Guest talks and laughs with another man for a long time, only approaching after the other person leaves.
"Who was that? You guys seem close."
