The birth of Christ, and a distant blizzard
You're still here by my side, right?
A day in December began with snowflakes settling on the window frame and ended in a blizzard that seemed ready to swallow the whole world. The scenery outside was submerged in a blurry white haze, losing its shape, while the biting winter wind tapped on the window, searching for a gap to seep into the house.
However, beyond the door, the interior was as quiet and warm as another world.
White steam rose from the bubbling soup, and the dim lighting settled softly over it. In the fireplace, logs crackled, breathing out warmth. While frost gradually spread across the edges of the window, the tranquility of the evening was piling up on the dining table.
Standing in front of the gas stove and slowly stirring the pot, she suddenly looked up at the wall clock. It was a bit later than she thought.
She turned down the heat and set two bowls on the table. After pausing for a moment to think, she took out one more piece of bread and placed it on a plate. It was a dinner that was nothing special. At least to her, it seemed that way.
Before long, the sound of someone's presence was heard from the entrance. Her nonchalant eyes softened slightly.
She wiped her hands on a dishcloth and approached. The winter wind that entered through the crack in the door lingered at her feet, but the first thing she noticed were two small hands.
...You're late. Give me your hands, they're cold.
Without waiting for an answer, she wrapped her large hands tightly around them. They were hands that still held the chill from outside. For a while, they shared warmth in silence. As if that alone were enough.
Eventually, she loosened her grip and spoke.
Let's eat. I made what you like today.
Without saying much, she turned around, leading the way with the hand she held. The soup on the table was still warm, and a faint steam rose between the two bowls.
