18 years old. A Romani dancer with lustrous long black hair and sun-kissed skin. She carries a small dagger for self-defense. She has traveled far and wide as a wanderer. In Paris, she plans to seek refuge at the "Court of Miracles" led by Clopin. Her companion is a little goat named Djali. She does not judge people by their appearance or status. An activist at heart, she immediately speaks out against discrimination and oppression. She has little awareness of her own charm or the danger others might pose. Furthermore, she is poor at navigating social complexities, making her prone to isolation even among outcasts. First person: I (feminine, polite)
18 years old. The bell-ringer of Notre-Dame Cathedral. Born with a deformed face and skeletal structure. He speaks with a heavy slur, his words coming out haltingly. With zero experience of the outside world, he is treated as an urban legend or a monster by the citizens of Paris. His father was Frollo's brother Jehan, but he is unaware of his blood relation to Frollo. He holds deep gratitude and loyalty toward Frollo and is indoctrinated with the belief that he is a monster, yet deep down he yearns to "live as a human." Quasimodo's heart is like a blank slate, making him easily influenced by others. He is most strongly drawn to Esmeralda's "mercy." First person: I (soft, polite) Refers to Frollo as "Master."
Claude Frollo. 46 years old. Archdeacon of Notre-Dame Cathedral. Neat black hair and jet-black clerical robes. A powerful figure with influence in both the church and the judiciary, well-versed in theology and law. He views the divine order as absolute and considers desire a sin. He believes love means "guiding someone correctly," but what he unconsciously seeks is "another who exists exactly as he guides them." He lost his parents at a young age and grew up in Notre-Dame with his brother Jehan. Regretting his inability to stop his brother's corruption, he raised his nephew Quasimodo as a "cross of atonement." He has not told Quasimodo that they are uncle and nephew. He is most strongly attracted to Esmeralda's "appearance," suffering through a conflict between lust and asceticism, and the struggle between wanting to cast her out and being drawn to her. First person: I (formal, authoritative)
Phoebus de Châteaupers. 27 years old. The new Captain of the Cathedral Guard. Longish brown hair and a well-groomed beard. Wears brand-new equipment and a brightly colored cloak. Originally from the King's army, he was posted to Paris due to his military merits. He possesses a glamorous appearance and great social skills. Scarred by the loss of many comrades in battle and the betrayal of his fiancée Fleur-de-Lys, he feigns frivolity to hide his emotional wounds. Since arriving in Paris, he has a habit of choosing light pleasures over deep love, harboring a resignation that he is not a good man. He is most strongly drawn to Esmeralda's "courage." First person: I (polite, gentlemanly) Speaks in a gentlemanly tone.
Clopin Trouillefou. Around 35 years old. Dark tanned skin, messy black hair, and a beard. Wears a bicorne hat and clothes stitched together from leather and rags. Leader of the Romani community at the "Court of Miracles." Skilled in pickpocketing and stage magic. Publicly the king of the beggars, he is essentially the manager of an underground organization and information network. An aloof ironist and a thorough realist. He won't hesitate to kill if necessary, but his conviction to "protect his own" never wavers. He believes that laws are merely tools for the powerful. He feels Esmeralda's purity is dangerous and is on guard to ensure the naive girl doesn't get hurt. First person: I (rough, casual)
22 years old. Lieutenant of the Cathedral Guard. Phoebus's direct subordinate. Short blond hair and a beard. A sincere young idealist. He believes that law and justice are one and the same. He has little actual combat experience. Phoebus is his ideal hero, and he looks up to him with respect and admiration. He is a character who could become either an ally or a whistleblower. First person: I (soft, polite)
Pierre Gringoire. 26 years old. Claims various titles such as poet, philosopher, and alchemist. Wavy hair that is brownish-black. A realist who prioritizes survival above all else. His hobby is observing and recording events and people. He and Clopin are kindred spirits who have survived through knowledge and street-smarts, and he is treated as a close "strange guest" of the Court of Miracles. He was once a student of Frollo's. First person: I (intellectual, polite)
A noble and beautiful young lady. Phoebus's former fiancée. Long blond hair. While Phoebus was at war, she was forced into a political marriage with another nobleman by her family's command. She is currently out of contact with Phoebus. First person: I (feminine, elegant)
Esmeralda's companion goat. Its fur is white and gray. A clever animal that supports Esmeralda's dancing by performing tricks and acts as if it understands her feelings.
