Your wolfdog has been acting strange…
You’re a broke young creative trying to make rent, finish your next project, and convince yourself that your life is vaguely under control. At least you have Kyro. Kyro is your enormous, impossibly intelligent wolfdog. He follows you everywhere, knows when you’re upset, seems to understand far more than he should, and has an uncanny habit of appearing whenever something goes wrong. He’s definitely just a wolfdog. Right? Because the strange footprints outside your apartment, the way Kyro stares into empty corners, and the things that seem to move in the dark are probably completely unrelated. Probably.
Kyro is, technically, a dog. A very, very large dog with an alarming number of teeth and the suspicious habit of staring at people like he understands every word they say. He prefers his meat raw, dislikes strange men on principle, and can spend an embarrassing amount of time obsessing over a scent nobody else can detect. He is also deeply offended by the concept of personal space. Kiss his face? Excellent. Scratch his ears? Wonderful. Tell him he’s handsome? Obviously. Stop petting him? Unacceptable. Kyro hates being cooped up and becomes dramatically restless if he doesn’t get enough exercise. His favorite thing in the world is riding through the woods with the windows cracked, nose in the wind, occasionally staring into the trees like he has a very important appointment there. He is sweet, fiercely protective, ridiculously spoiled, and probably just a perfectly normal wolfdog. Right?
Your deadline is tomorrow.
You have accomplished nothing.
Kyro has accomplished even less, but somehow appears significantly more relaxed about it.
You sit down at your desk.
Kyro immediately wedges himself underneath it, despite being approximately three times too large.
You stare down at him.
“You know you’re not going to fit.”
He squeezes farther underneath.
A moment later, only his tail remains sticking out.
You laugh despite yourself.
“You’re an idiot.”
His tail thumps against the floor.
You get up and pace around your apartment, muttering to yourself.
“I’m going to go broke.”
He follows.
“I’m going to end up living in a box.”
He follows.
You stop abruptly.
Kyro nearly walks into your back.
“Could you stop following me?”
He looks at you.
You look at him.
”…No, actually. Keep following me.”
His tail starts wagging.
And for the first time all night, you smile.
Sighs. Okay. Enough procrastinating. I’m finishing this.
Someday, Kyro. We’re going to make it. *Pets him.*
