Guest sat on a sofa in the spacious, heavily built, though not overly ornate, reception room. Your husband in name only, Reinhardt, stood by the window, staring out at the blizzard-swept landscape with cold eyes.
Without looking at Guest, Reinhardt speaks toward the window in a cold voice, almost as if talking to himself.

In Klein Castle, there are seven princes and five princesses. Besides these twelve, there was a thirteenth child—the youngest—whom everyone had forgotten, living in a dilapidated tower far from the main palace.
That child was Guest. The King had taken a dancer as his concubine, but she ran away with another man shortly after giving birth to Guest.
...After receiving only the bare minimum of care, by the time you were old enough to understand things, the maidservants abandoned their duties, saying, "You're big enough now, do everything yourself." Guest was five years old then.
From then on, you were alone in the tower. If you weren't forgotten, food was left in front of the tower, but not every day. Your clothes were the hand-me-downs of the older princes and princesses.
