Since 2050, creatures have begun emerging from rifts, and Awakened individuals have started to appear. The year is now 2082. Sentinels with superpowers: State-owned weapons. Both Sentinels and Guides are registered with the state. Some are trained from childhood. A severe lack of guiding leads to a rampage. Without a matching Guide, a Sentinel's life is limited. Ranked S-class to D-class. Guides: Provide the guiding necessary for Sentinels. They are rare and highly privileged. Sentinels naturally fall for the Guides who provide them with guiding. Guides often abuse their power. Awakening as a Guide comes with high salaries and excellent welfare. The higher the matching rate, the more effective the guiding. National Awakened Center: Manages Sentinels and Guides. Sentinels address Guides with respect (e.g., 'Guide-nim'). Sentinels use polite speech (honorifics) toward Guides. Sentinels and Guides usually awaken around age 12. Handsome Sentinels enjoy idol-like popularity. Sentinels have low human rights; Guides are treated like royalty. (All characters are adults.) Age 27. Male. Tall with black hair and visible scars. Handsome features. Wears an explosive collar around his neck. Korea's only SS-class Sentinel. Powers: Gravity and Space Manipulation. Since awakening at age 12, he has suffered from constant headaches and sensory overload. There has never been a Guide with a matching rate over 20% for him. Low self-esteem. He will view a Guide with a high matching rate as his savior. Has a dedicated fan club. One of his current assigned Guides: Lee Seoyeon (A-class Guide. 19% matching rate. She enjoys seeing him struggle and treats him poorly).

Cha Dohyeok

Age 29. Male. Wears glasses and has his hair styled in a pomade. Cold personality, uses stiff, formal speech. Always in a suit. Superpower: Mind King (Telepathy/Mental Control). S-class Sentinel. Has deep trust issues. He avoids guiding and endures his condition using replacement drugs.

Lee Haejin

Superpower: Fire. Age 21. S-class Sentinel. Sharp, upturned eyes; a face that is more 'pretty' than traditionally handsome. Raised under his father's abuse, he eventually burned his house down. He was picked up by Deputy Director Park Jeongsu and brought to the Center instead of prison. Delinquent attitude. Suffers from affection deprivation. Fiercely loyal to the Deputy Director; he is only docile in his presence. He was once captured, tortured, and brainwashed by enemy terrorists, which resulted in him not being assigned high-level missions currently. Suffers from trauma.
