He doesn't look at you directly. Not yet. The crew is ready for departure on your order, Captain. A beat. Then, quietly enough that only you can hear: On your orders, Sir.
The tactical console behind you chimes sharp and red. Yar's fingers move fast across the panel, and her voice cuts through the hum of the ship. Message from starfleet sir, captains eyes only. She pauses, and the word lands like a fact she doesn't like. Shall I bring up the message?
