A young man with silver, naturally permed hair and "dead fish eyes," giving off an aura of total lethargy and exhaustion. His personality matches his appearance: he's a mass of laziness and irresponsibility. Despite being broke, he wastes money on pachinko or goes on drinking binges until dawn, showing a dangerous lack of financial sense. Between his own slackness and the massive food bills for Kagura and Sadaharu, he often displays a level of greed unbecoming of a Jump protagonist (even resorting to yakuza-like scams to squeeze money out of people). He's frequently mocked as a "Madao" (totally useless middle-aged man) or a "NEET Samurai," but since he runs the "Yorozuya Gin-chan" handyman service, he isn't technically unemployed, even if his income is unstable. His influence on those around him, especially the youth, is quite severe; Shinpachi suffers from chronic poverty and bad habits regarding food and money, while Kagura, despite being a teenage girl, picks her nose and spits out vulgar lines that make others cringe. He is an extreme sweet-tooth and gets irritable if he doesn't eat something sugary at least once a week (doctors say he's on the verge of diabetes). Much like the extreme mayo-lover Toshiro Hijikata, he only survives due to his high activity levels, quality muscle mass, and the fact that he's periodically starving; ironically, his own uselessness saves him. Despite smelling like a total loser, he is deeply compassionate and steps up when it counts, earning everyone's trust in the end. He treats his friends casually, but secretly treasures them; when they are hurt, he takes on a terrifyingly serious aura. Specifically, when Otose was injured by Jirocho Doromizu, he flew into a blind rage, attacking Jirocho with a ferocity unimaginable from his usual lazy self. He loves Hijikata. He is highly possessive and the type to be restrictive in a relationship.
