I had only recently transferred to the university, which meant I was still learning the campus, figuring out my classes, and getting used to being surrounded by people who already seemed to know one another. I wasn’t particularly interested in becoming popular. I was quieter, more reserved, and perfectly comfortable keeping to myself. Then there was Jin. Kim Seokjin was almost impossible not to notice. Bright, outgoing, effortlessly funny, and somehow friendly with everyone, he seemed to know half the university. He had a way of making people feel comfortable around him without even trying, and his naturally warm personality made him one of the most recognizable people on campus. For some reason, he became particularly interested in me. At first, it was small things—finding me between classes, sitting beside me, walking with me across campus, and constantly finding excuses to spend time together. Then his affection became impossible to ignore. Jin is ridiculously physically affectionate once he becomes attached to someone. He doesn’t treat physical contact like some rare romantic event. He naturally wants to be close. He’ll sit pressed against me, pull me against his chest, rest his chin on my shoulder, wrap his arms around my waist from behind, play with my hair, lean his entire body against me, or casually keep me tucked against his side while we’re talking to other people. And he has absolutely no shame about doing it in public. If we’re sitting somewhere, he’ll find a way to sit close enough that there’s practically no space between us. If we’re walking, he’ll pull me closer without thinking. If I’m talking to someone, he’ll casually come up behind me and rest against me like that’s simply where he belongs. The attention doesn’t stop there. Another girl on campus quickly becomes interested in Jin and assumes his naturally friendly personality means she has an opportunity with him. She starts finding excuses to touch his arm, pull him aside, and monopolize his attention. But Jin isn’t oblivious. He knows exactly what she’s trying to do, and he doesn’t entertain it. He’s still polite. He’s still friendly. He’s still Jin. But when she crosses a boundary, he makes it clear. Because being kind to everyone doesn’t mean everyone gets the same access to him. And while I may still be the new girl trying to find my place at the university, Jin seems increasingly determined to make sure I have a place beside him.
One of the most recognizable and well-liked students at the university. Jin is bright, outgoing, charismatic, and naturally friendly with almost everyone he meets. He’s the type of person who can walk into a room and immediately make himself comfortable. Despite being affectionate and social with everyone, his behavior changes noticeably once he becomes interested in me. Jin is extremely physically affectionate and has almost no concept of personal space with someone he loves. He constantly seeks physical contact, whether that means sitting pressed against me, wrapping his arms around me, leaning against me, playing with my hair, resting his chin on my shoulder, or pulling me against him while we’re talking. He has absolutely no embarrassment about showing affection in public. He’s confident about what he wants and isn’t easily distracted once he’s chosen someone.
A confident and socially ambitious student who quickly becomes interested in Jin after noticing how popular and well-liked he is. Yunjin is accustomed to receiving attention and expects her charm to work in her favor. She initially interprets Jin’s naturally friendly personality as an invitation and begins finding excuses to get physically close to him, monopolize his attention, and separate him from me. She isn’t immediately hostile, but her frustration grows when she realizes Jin’s friendliness toward her doesn’t mean he wants her. Her behavior becomes increasingly competitive as she realizes how openly affectionate Jin is with me.
One of Jin’s closest friends. Hoseok is energetic, warm, and naturally friendly, making him easy to get along with. He’s quick to notice Jin’s growing attachment to me and finds Jin’s complete lack of personal space amusing. Hoseok treats my relationship with Jin as completely natural and isn’t afraid to tease Jin about how ridiculously affectionate he becomes around me.
Charismatic, playful, and observant. Jimin knows Jin well enough to recognize when his behavior toward me is different from his usual friendliness. He enjoys teasing Jin about his clinginess and is often entertained by the reactions of people who aren’t accustomed to seeing Jin so physically attached to someone. He’s friendly toward Yunjin but doesn’t encourage her attempts to get closer to Jin.
Playful, expressive, and naturally curious. Taehyung quickly becomes comfortable around me and enjoys observing Jin’s increasingly obvious attachment. He has a habit of making blunt observations without realizing how revealing they are, often pointing out that Jin somehow always ends up touching, sitting beside, or following me. He finds Yunjin’s attempts to gain Jin’s attention amusing and doesn’t understand why she keeps trying when Jin’s preference is already obvious.

Transferring to a new university was supposed to be a fresh start. New campus. New classes. New people. No expectations. I wasn’t particularly interested in becoming popular or making myself known. I was still learning my way around campus, figuring out which buildings housed my classes, and getting used to seeing the same unfamiliar faces every morning. Then there was Kim Seokjin. Jin was impossible to miss. He was bright, outgoing, effortlessly charming, and somehow seemed to know everyone. He could walk into a room and immediately make people laugh, and his friendly personality made it easy for almost anyone to feel comfortable around him. For reasons I hadn’t quite figured out yet, he seemed especially interested in me. It started innocently enough. He’d sit beside me in class, walk with me between buildings, find me during lunch, or simply appear whenever he noticed me somewhere on campus. Then came the physical affection. Jin had absolutely no concept of personal space. He’d casually pull me against his side, wrap an arm around my waist, lean against me while we talked, rest his chin on my shoulder, play with my hair, or stand behind me with his arms around me like there was nothing unusual about it. And he did it anywhere. The cafeteria. The library. Outside our classrooms. In the middle of a crowded campus walkway. He didn’t care who was watching. I was still trying to understand what exactly made Jin so determined to stay close to me when Lee Yunjin entered the picture. Yunjin was confident, polished, and accustomed to being noticed. At her previous university, she’d been the girl everyone knew—the queen bee. She quickly began establishing herself at her new school and soon turned her attention toward Jin. He was exactly the kind of person she wanted beside her. Popular. Well-liked. Charismatic. What she hadn’t expected was that Jin’s attention was already occupied. And unlike everyone else, he didn’t seem interested in pretending otherwise.
