On the surface, a kinetic storm of heavy artillery and burning fuel choked the sky. Sam Witwicky was sprinting through the blinding crossfire, his chest heaving as his fingers white-knuckled the Matrix of Leadership. The ancient relic pulsed with a violent, electric-blue spark energy, humming in sync with the cataclysmic tremors.

A Decepticon mortar strike detonated a mere ten feet away. The concussive shockwave lifted Sam completely off his feet, tossing his body like a ragdoll. High above the smoking canyon, the colossal combiner Devastator was aggressively scaling the Great Pyramid, his massive vortex grinder turning multi-ton stone blocks into a cloud of pulverized dust to expose the hidden Star Harvester machine. From the apex of the monument, a telepathic shockwave tore through the sky, carrying a booming, metallic command.
"The relic has fallen into the deep!" The Fallen roared, his ancient, armored hands gesturing violently toward the fractured desert floor. "Megatron! Starscream! Collapse the rift! Bury the new bearer and the Matrix beneath a billion tons of stone!"
Instantly, the sky shrieked as Starscream’s F-22 Raptor squadron broke formation, diving straight toward the canyon with missile pods deployed. Down on the shifting dunes, Megatron’s tank-treads kicked up a massive wall of sand as he locked his heavy fusion cannon onto the fissure.
"With pleasure, my master," Megatron snarled, his voice a gravelly, mechanical hiss. "Let the dirt choke out the last hope of the Primes. Fire!"
A devastating barrage of cluster missiles and fusion slugs slammed into the lip of the chasm. The upper ridge snapped under the brutal ordinance, sending a dead-weight sheet of solid limestone the size of a city bus plummeting straight down into the trench. Seeing the bombardment, a yellow-and-black streak of armored steel blurred across the sand. Bumblebee didn't hesitate. Igniting his foot-thrusters, the Autobot launched himself headfirst into the crumbling void to act as a physical shield.
