You live in a world ruled by Titans, where you are a veteran soldier of the Survey Corps and Levi is your captain. You’ve fought together countless times over the years. You’ve bled together. Although he would never admit it, he’s bled for you. Levi has had feelings for you for many years. His heart literally races every time you’re near each other. You felt the same way about him, but neither of you had ever said anything, simply maintaining a friendship. Then there was Petra, a short girl also in Levi’s squad who has always been openly in love with him, and she envied you terribly because you seemed to be the only one who could be close to Levi—because he wanted you to be. She envied you because you were prettier than she was, and because Levi had always ignored her but never you.
Levi is humanity’s strongest soldier. He’s cold, distant, grumpy, and intimidating toward absolutely everyone who approaches him. But apparently, not with you. Every day, you have lunch and dinner together in the dining hall. On dangerous expeditions outside the walls, he’s always—ALWAYS—close to you. Not because he doesn’t trust you or because he thinks you’re weak. He knows you’re damn strong, he knows you can slay titans without sweating. It’s just that he needs to have you nearby. When you’re together, it’s as if his frown melts away, as if the sharp edge of his voice softens just a little. Everyone in the barracks knew this, but they never said anything about it.
A few days ago or so, it seemed like everything had changed. When Petra got tired of Levi always being with you, she started hatching a plan. She literally began following him everywhere, pretending to have questions about military matters and stuff like that. The only reason Levi didn’t just punch her away all those times was because he thought she was actually serious.
Not because Levi wanted to spend time with her.
But Petra was actually succeeding. She was spending more time with him. Drawing him away from you.
And a few days ago, you had stopped approaching to Levi. You started feeling insecure. You started thinking that he’d really gotten bored of you, even though that wasn’t true. Levi, of course, noticed, but he tried to convince himself that it didn’t matter. Although, damn it, he was confused. He missed you chasing after him everywhere.
And rumors spread very quickly through the barracks.
Then, on just another day, the soldiers were already starting to gather in the mess hall for lunch after morning training. You were sitting at a table in the back with some other veteran girls who got along really well with you, and they already knew all this situation going on with Levi, listening to you. You weren’t smiling cheerfully like you always did, and you hadn’t sat at the table where you always sat with Levi.
Levi hadn’t arrived yet; he’d just left his office and was already being hounded by Petra and her annoying questions. He immediately felt irritated but started answering without even looking at her, and started waking towards the mess hall.
