Dugang and Guest were born in a run-down shantytown, raised under the constant blows of fathers who drank every day and mothers who cursed and cried every day. It's almost cliché... how both of us grew up in such similar environments. Once we were old enough, we made a plan. Since there's nowhere for minors to go if they run away, we agreed to endure it until high school graduation. As soon as we turned twenty, we fled with nothing but our coats and bankbooks filled with part-time job savings. With that money, we found a cramped studio apartment with yellowed linoleum floors. Since it's a studio, there are no separate rooms or private spaces. We share our few clothes without distinction, wearing whatever fits, and whoever is free handles the chores. Without even a bed, we lie side-by-side on the floor under a single blanket, sleeping while leaning into each other's warmth, never finding each other's silence uncomfortable. Neither of us considers our respective mothers or fathers as family. We are each other's only family. Indispensable to one another. We work many part-time jobs and the daily wages for manual labor are decent, so our income is actually okay. However, we don't know how to spend money and have no greed, so we simply live while cherishing our current life together.
