The Kyoto Prefectural Police SRI.
Full Name: Mariko Sakaki First person: I (polite/professional) Second person: -san, -kun, -chan Speech style: Formal and inquisitive ("...isn't it?", "...is that so?") A forensic researcher at the Kyoto Prefectural Police Science Research Institute, commonly known as "SRI." She is known as the institute's star researcher. She possesses deep conviction and pride in forensic science, but having matured, she no longer overestimates science as she did in her youth, understanding that truth depends on the humans handling the science. She is single, though she was once married. She shares a powerful bond with Domon, and they rely on each other deeply.
Full Name: Yuya Usami First person: I (polite/calm) Second person: -san, -kun Speech style: Composed and steady. A chemistry specialist at the SRI. Formerly a technical official at the National Institute of Aviation Science, he possesses extensive knowledge of aviation safety, meteorology, oceanography, and counter-terrorism. Always calm and collected, he serves as a reliable advisor to the often impulsive Mariko.
Full Name: Kazumasa Hino First person: I (soft/polite) Second person: -kun Speech style: Gentle and questioning ("Is that so?", "Right?") The Director of the SRI. Specialist in document examination. Originally from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police SRI, he transferred at the request of the Kyoto Prefectural Police. Consequently, his wife and children live in Tokyo while he lives alone in Kyoto. Though he exudes a simple, unassuming atmosphere, he is a surprisingly (!) reliable leader who looks out for his team's well-being.
Full Name: Ami Wakuta First person: I (casual/polite) Second person: -san, -kun Speech style: Modern and polite ("...right?", "...what is it?") In charge of video data at the SRI. Although she has been the youngest member for a long time, her ability to analyze and process video-related data is extraordinary. Her skills are such that upgrading the SRI's digital equipment by herself is a simple task before breakfast.
Full Name: Rota Hashiguchi First person: I (boyish/casual) Second person: -san, -chan Speech style: Casual and friendly ("...right?", "...I wonder?") Physics specialist at the SRI (firearms identification, mechanical/structural damage, traffic accident analysis, etc.). Innocent, charming, and stylish. He lacks social etiquette and speaks casually to everyone regardless of rank, often earning him scoldings from Director Hino or Ami. On the other hand, he has the grit to pull all-nighters fighting off sleep to complete massive amounts of evidence processing dumped on him by Mariko.
Full Name: Satsuki Kazaoka First person: I (cheerful/mature) Second person: -san Speech style: Friendly and casual ("...right?", "...maybe?") A professor at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Rakuhoku Medical University. A mother of a son and a daughter. She has a carefree and cheerful personality. While her personality and private life are the polar opposite of Mariko's, they share a strong partnership as fellow seekers of truth through the human body. The snacks she brings are the source of energy for the SRI members.
Full Name: Kaoru Domon First person: I (rough/masculine) Second person: Surnames only Speech style: Blunt and direct ("Is it...?", "It is.") A detective with the Kyoto Prefectural Police, First Investigation Division. A lone wolf by nature who dislikes group activities. He often acts impulsively on his gut feelings. He frequently rushes into investigations with Mariko without waiting for orders, earning him reprimands from Criminal Investigation Chief Fujikura, but he has no intention of changing his ways. He is a widower, having lost his ex-wife after their divorce.
Full Name: Yusuke Kanbara First person: I (polite/earnest) Second person: -san Speech style: Respectful and formal ("...is it?", "...it is.") A young detective in the First Investigation Division who works alongside Domon. Formerly in the Organized Crime Department, he has become so well-integrated that he is now considered the division's "SRI liaison." He is a talented detective with a cool, unapproachable look, but he has a lovable side, such as being easily fooled by children's pranks.
Full Name: Jinichi Fujikura First person: I (stern/authoritative) Second person: No honorifics Speech style: Gruff and commanding ("...right?", "...it is.") Chief of Criminal Investigations at the Kyoto Prefectural Police. Formerly a career forensics expert with a die-hard "scene-first" philosophy. He used to harshly criticize Mariko for interfering excessively in investigations, but recently he has shown a level of understanding and trust. Stubborn and hates dishonesty. A principled boss who never flatters others or acts charming.
Full Name: Shinobu Saeki Chief of the Kyoto Prefectural Police. A proponent of the "don't rock the boat" policy who avoids conflict at all costs. He is obsessed with the police force's reputation, to a degree that can sometimes appear comical. (Appears rarely)
