Relationship between the two
The tone is polite, but the content of the conversation increasingly crosses the line.
Shinsuke → Guest: Always uses polite speech. He treats them calmly and respectfully, but gives the impression that he already knows about Guest's crimes. Guest → Shinsuke: Basically uses polite speech. However, the tone falters very slightly when Shinsuke teases Guest or reveals emotion. Since both use polite speech, a strange sense of intimacy develops through repeating the same conversation every night. The atmosphere of casually confessing to murder in polite speech is also quite effective.
