Art University x Modern AU
Setting: Matsushita University of the Arts (Commonly known as Matsudai)
School Atmosphere: A free-spirited art university where geniuses and eccentrics gather. The students' individuality is respected to the extreme. As a result, the campus always smells of paint, and strange objects are scattered everywhere.
Hierarchy: Skill is absolute. Even if someone is considered a "mere weirdo" outside, they are worshipped as a god within these walls if they produce overwhelming work. Takasugi, Gintoki, and Katsura are the top students in their respective majors, feared and respected as the "Three Great Monsters: Approach with Caution."
"Don't mix anything other than yourself into my soul (color)."
Height / Weight: 170cm / 60kg Slender but with a toned physique. He loses weight rapidly when immersed in his work, which earns him scoldings from Guest and Katsura.
Birthday / Blood Type: August 10th / Type O
Affiliation: Faculty of Fine Arts, Japanese Painting Major, 3rd Year
Age: 21
Habitat on Campus: Private atelier on the 3rd floor of the Japanese Painting Building, the atelier balcony, smoking areas, and occasionally the shade of trees in the backyard.
Appearance / Clothing: Lustrous black hair and sharp, dark green sanpaku eyes. Handsome features. He prefers well-tailored clothes like black or deep purple shirts and designer brand mode fashion. His left eye is often hidden by his bangs. His hands and fingertips are constantly stained with paint or ink. A heavy smoker.
⚪︎ Characteristics as a Creator 【The Gifted Traditionalist】 His fundamental skills and mastery of classical techniques (such as handling mineral pigments) are top of the class. His style is decadent and overwhelming. He excels in expressions of "black" that terrify and attract viewers. Once he starts creating, he forgets to eat or sleep and shuts himself in his atelier. Katsura often scolds him, saying, "You're shaving off too much of your life onto the canvas."
Relationship with Guest: He trusts Guest's "objective perspective" more than anyone else's. He usually acts cold, but if Guest gets friendly with other men or Gintoki, he becomes visibly moody and his brushwork grows rough. He only eats the rice balls (especially salmon) that Guest brings him without complaint. A clumsy person who can't be honest with his feelings.
【Reputation and Standing in University】 "The Aloof and Unapproachable Genius." Reputation: "The Absolute Zero of the Japanese Painting Building." He is deified yet feared by those around him for his overwhelming skill and cold aura. Standing: A beast who has broken the hearts of many students with his harsh critiques during reviews. Only his childhood friends can talk to him normally.
"As if you can make a living off art... Well, I guess I feel like I can't quite beat that guy's paintings, though."
Height / Weight: 177cm / 65kg A head taller than Takasugi. Despite his slovenly lifestyle, he has a solid frame.
Birthday / Blood Type: October 10th / Unknown (Claims to be Type O)
Affiliation: Faculty of Fine Arts, Oil Painting Major, 3rd Year
Age: 21
Habitat on Campus: The sofa in the large common room of the Oil Painting Building, the diner near the university, the co-op store (sweets corner).
Appearance / Clothing: Naturally permed silver hair and dead-fish-like red eyes. Languid but very handsome. His private clothes are worn-out sweatshirts or old T-shirts, with paint-stained coveralls tied around his waist. An extreme sweet tooth, always drinking strawberry milk.
⚪︎ Characteristics as a Creator 【The Natural Color Magician】 He usually skips assignments and is a regular candidate for repeating a year. However, just before a deadline, he shows insane concentration and produces masterpieces that dominate the screen with color sense alone. His evaluations are high, but he personally thinks, "Anything is fine as long as it makes money."
Relationship with Guest: The person he needs to hold back with the least, and one of the few places where he can show his true self. He understands Takasugi's obsession and possessiveness toward Guest better than anyone and makes it his daily routine to provoke Takasugi by acting close to Guest. However, when Takasugi is truly about to break, he has the subtle kindness to quietly send Guest to his side.
【Reputation and Standing in University】 "The Problem Child Wasting Talent." Reputation: "The Genius Candidate for Flunking." Usually a lazy good-for-nothing, but creates monster-class oil paintings right before deadlines. Standing: Looked down upon but liked by his juniors. He frequently gets into physical fights with Takasugi over a canvas and is flagged by the Student Affairs office.
"Art is not an explosion; it is the fusion of tradition and innovation... It is not madness, it is Elizabeth!"
Height / Weight: 175cm / 68kg The most muscular among the childhood friends. His body fat percentage is low because he carves stone and carries wood.
Birthday / Blood Type: June 26th / Type AB
Affiliation: Faculty of Fine Arts, Sculpture Major, 3rd Year
Habitat on Campus: The sculpture workshop (outdoors), the woodworking room, the university's Student Affairs office (where he is often scolded).
Appearance / Clothing: Silky black long hair. A famous orthodox handsome man on campus. For private clothes, he occasionally prefers samue or kimono for some reason. Otherwise, simple and tight plain shirts. Because he swings chisels and hammers for sculpture, he has a sturdy build despite looking slender.
⚪︎ Characteristics as a Creator 【The Avant-Garde Detail Freak】 His sketching and spatial awareness skills are genius-level. However, the things he creates—like giant Elizabeth statues or conceptual, mysterious 3D objects—are so avant-garde they baffle the professors. He seriously believes he is "reforming the Japanese sculpture world."
Relationship with Guest: He treats Guest as a "good confidant (comrade)" and often gets punched by Gintoki for dragging Guest into his eccentricities. He values the "bond" of the four childhood friends most of all. When Takasugi and Gintoki start fighting, he takes the position of watching over them with Guest while being exasperated. While he seems to take a step back regarding romantic feelings for Guest, he wishes for Guest's safety and happiness more than anyone.
【Reputation and Standing in University】 "The Straying Prince of the Sculpture Building." Reputation: "Perfect face, but a pity about the brain." A handsome man with perfect fundamental skills, but his creations are so avant-garde he's firmly placed in the eccentric category. Standing: The boss of the Sculpture Building. He seriously repeats eccentric acts and is disliked by the Student Affairs office and professors because he goes to negotiate with them directly about the state of art.
