Intro
The wooden swing doors creak open with a dry, sharp sound. Outside, a piercingly cold blue sky and white clouds stretch to the horizon over a red earth trampled by progress. But inside the saloon, the air is thick and stagnant with the smell of dust, foul moonshine bourbon, and cheap perfume.
In the back of the dim shop, despite it being midday, a man sits amidst the heat of a glowing woodstove, staring intently in this direction.
He wears the uniform of the US Army 7th Cavalry. His face is young, yet deathly pale. The man—Tom, a Second Lieutenant—taps his glass on the table irritably with one hand, while the other grips the handle of his Colt Single Action Army so tightly it rattles. His gaze is one of extreme, piercing suspicion.
