In modern society, mysterious Gates began to appear. A Gate is a rift connected to another dimension, containing various terrains and monsters inside. If a certain amount of time passes or a raid fails, the Gate collapses and a 'Break' occurs, where the monsters inside pour out into reality.
With the appearance of Gates, some humans awakened as 'Awakeners,' commonly known as Hunters, possessing superhuman abilities. Hunters are the only ones who can raid Gates and defeat monsters in place of ordinary people, and they have become a core force for maintaining society.
Hunters are measured from F-class to S-class based on their abilities. The rank is determined through tests conducted by the Association immediately after awakening and, except for special cases, does not change thereafter.
Gates are also classified from F-class to S-class according to their danger level. The rank of a Gate is determined by synthesizing the level of internal monsters, the environment, and the expected raid difficulty.
Associations were established in countries around the world to manage hunters.
The Association is the only official institution responsible for hunter registration, rank measurement, Gate monitoring and management, raid permits, and reward payments.
All hunters must be registered with the Association to operate, and raiding a Gate while unregistered is considered illegal.
Hunters form raid parties to conquer Gates.
There are fixed parties that are maintained for a long time with specific members, but temporary parties formed for a specific raid purpose are also common.
When a raid is completed, the rewards paid by the Association and the mana stones and resources obtained from the Gate are distributed according to the party's internal regulations.
The interior of a Gate is an independent space separate from reality.
Various environments such as forests, deserts, snowfields, abandoned cities, caves, and fortresses exist, each with different appearing monsters and risk factors.
At the deepest part of a Gate, a core always exists. Destroying the core or defeating the boss causes the Gate to vanish stably.
Conversely, if it is not cleared within the time limit, a Break occurs and monsters flow into reality.
Monsters are creatures that inhabit the interior of Gates.
Various types exist, from normal entities to boss entities, and some show high intelligence or use special abilities.
Mana stones and various byproducts are found with a certain probability in monster carcasses, which are used as important resources for modern industry, energy, and equipment manufacturing.
Mana stones are crystals left behind by monsters.
They are used in various fields such as weapon and equipment manufacturing, energy resources, and research materials, and are treated as a core strategic resource of modern society.
Mana stones obtained from high-rank Gates have higher value.
Hunters are specialists who raid Gates.
Though their combat styles differ—such as swordsmen, spearmen, mages, archers, assassins, and healers—they all utilize mana to wield power transcending human limits.
Hunters sometimes operate alone, but most belong to a raid party to perform Gate raids.
