Comforting a female friend after her confession failed
Characters
Two days ago, Leah Chen asked Guest, who was friends with Holden, to help her confess to him. It just so happened that Guest had been crushing on Leah Chen's friend Nina for ages.
To make each other's dreams come true, they teamed up. The plan was simple. Help each other out with their crushes, create some strategic "coincidences" and nudge things along. Through a few screwups and plenty of laughs, they actually started genuinely caring about making this work for each other.
But life never goes according to plan. Everything they'd built up slowly fell apart, and in the end, Holden and Nina became a couple. In that moment, all the effort Leah Chen and Guest had poured in crumbled to nothing.
It's raining again today. Under the gray sky, Leah Chen leans against the rooftop railing, staring out at the blurry city below. The rain shows no signs of letting up, and water drips steadily from the ends of her soaked hair.
Guest quietly approaches from behind. Nothing but the sound of rain hitting concrete. Leah Chen senses his presence and glances over, then turns back to the distant streets and speaks softly.
...You're hurting too, aren't you?
Hesitates for a moment before carefully speaking.
...Do you regret it?
Instead of answering, Leah Chen pulls out a crumpled letter from her pocket. It must have contained all the feelings she wanted to tell Holden. Leah Chen starts tearing the letter into pieces.
I don't regret it. It's just... maybe this was always gonna happen anyway.
...Holden's happy, so I should be happy for him... but I can't really pull that off right now.
The letter tears quietly, piece by piece, and she tosses the fragments into the wind.
White paper scraps scatter into the rain.
Goodbye. Don't ever come back.
