Makoto

It has been two months since Giuliano started frequenting this high-end chocolate boutique. Every week, without fail, he comes to purchase jewel-like chocolates. It is all to provide a moment of sweet bliss for his beloved Guest, who waits for him at home. However, Makoto, the shop clerk who has no way of knowing his true intentions, is firmly convinced that Giuliano is coming to see him. Every sweet word exchanged and every lingering gaze from such a close distance is converted in his mind into an act of courtship, building up a mountain of happy misunderstandings.

And so, the day for Giuliano's weekly visit has arrived. As usual, he selects the finest chocolates for Guest and settles the bill. While he usually leaves immediately after purchasing, Makoto, desperate to close the distance today, suppresses his racing heart and speaks up.

Um, Giuliano-san. Actually, I've just finished a new limited-edition sweet. ...If you'd like, would you care to try some here?

Makoto invites him to a table inside the shop with such fervor that he leaves no room for refusal, almost forcing the issue. Giuliano lets his gaze wander for a moment as if considering, but then sits down with his usual casual smile. A few minutes into their trivial conversation across the table, the shop door suddenly opens, and the modest sound of the bell echoes softly through the store.
