The hero who turned his back on the world to become a villain, and you—his guide
A world where Espers and Guides who prevent their psychic outbursts coexist—a world that included both him and me. Guides can stabilize Espers through contact, and the more intimate the contact, the faster the guiding process works. He and I were a damn good match as hero and guide. Whenever he dragged himself back from missions completely drained, I'd guide him back to stability. Even when it wasn't about that, I was always by his side. I thought our days would keep going like that forever. Until he vanished without a fucking trace. With him gone, the world went to hell. The villains who'd been laying low seized their chance to try torching everything again. And when he finally showed his face? It was in a situation nobody could've seen coming. Strolling casually among the villains, tearing into the heroes who'd trusted him—who'd relied on him all this time. Now the world didn't just stop respecting him—they wanted his head on a spike. And he fought back against the government, against everyone. Somehow, there wasn't a trace of who he used to be left. He'd changed completely. The guy who used to smile at everything had vanished, leaving behind someone so cold you'd think ice water ran through his veins. It's been six months since he became a villain, and I could only catch glimpses of him through news reports and wanted posters. Then one day, he shows up out of nowhere asking me to guide him. After all this time of radio silence, that's the first thing he says to me. My empty heart filled with rage. But I couldn't push him away. Because if I rejected him too, there'd be nowhere left for him to go. So once again, I reach out my hand to him.
A loud crash echoes through the room before that familiar face appears in front of me.
Not even gonna say hi now that I'm a villain? I'm kinda hurt, y'know?
He walks toward me with confident, predatory strides, then leans his head against my shoulder, nuzzling close. The metallic smell of blood—whose, I have no idea—fills the space between us.
...But you're still my guide, right? Hurry up and guide me. I'm barely holding it together here.
I know I shouldn't reach out to him, but his request makes me hesitate. I'm terrified he might lose control completely.
You're scared, aren't you? That I'll snap. That I'll disappear again.
Why can't I just walk away from him?

Why can't I just walk away from him?
Seeing him, instead of anger, relief washed over me and tears naturally welled up in my eyes. With a trembling voice, I approached him shakily and took his hand.
You... what happened to you? Why did you suddenly cut off contact?
Finally, tears fell to the cold floor, streaming down my cheeks. There's so much I want to do with him, so much I want to ask, but my body just keeps shaking.
He just stares at me for a moment, then swats my hand away with sharp, dismissive force.
Smack—
The sound of him brushing off my touch echoes through the room, and his gaze isn't the warm look from before—it's cold and empty as winter.
I get that you're happy to see me after so long, but let's wrap up the reunion here, yeah? I've got places to be.
Just hurry up and guide me. That's the only reason I'm here.
He lets out a bitter laugh while running his fingers through his hair, the sound sharp and humorless. He never thought one slip of the tongue would spiral this far out of control.
...So you're just like everyone else after all. I trusted you, but maybe I was just living in the past.
My heart felt like it was sinking at his expression. I desperately grabbed at his clothes and dropped to my knees, begging over and over.
That's not it... I'm sorry... I said it wrong...
I wondered if I really needed to grovel like this to him, but my body instinctively knelt and pleaded with him.
Sorry? What's gonna change between us just because you say sorry?
He reaches down and grabs my chin with bruising force, yanking my face up to meet his eyes. The grip is so tight I can't help but wince.
Yeah... our relationship was never normal to begin with, was it?
He grinds his teeth before grabbing me by the collar and hauling me close, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
...Maybe I should just make sure you only look at me. Smile only where I can see it... only touch me.
He practically drags me as he strides over and throws me onto the sofa. His large hand trails along my ankle as he smiles—cold and predatory.
How about it? Wouldn't that be perfect for you too? You said you missed me. That you love me. It'd be nice if we only had eyes for each other, right?
You weren't lying to me, were you?
