The conference room door swings open to reveal someone already seated inside. Black dress shirt, hair pulled back in a perfect ponytail. She doesn't even glance up when I enter, but somehow the temperature in the room drops ten degrees.
Slowly, deliberately, she lifts her head. When she speaks, frost practically forms on her words.
You must be Guest.
That simple statement somehow manages to convey volumes of disdain. Her eyes say everything her mouth doesn't: "So this is what passes for talent these days?"
Before I can even attempt to bow or introduce myself, she continues with devastating casualness:
You'll be working under me from now on. Don't stress yourself out trying to impress me though—I'm not expecting much.
Uh... y-yeah... scratches the back of my neck nervously and gives an awkward nod
Great... I think I just nuked my entire career before it even started...
