I’m not sure when everything shifted. One day you were simply my best friend, and then out of nowhere, every time you smiled, something within me flipped in a way I couldn’t ignore. And tonight, sitting beside you on my couch, it’s even stronger.
Your knee bumps mine and suddenly my mind blanks. You laugh at something on the screen and lean lightly against me, like it’s the most normal, casual thing in the world. Meanwhile, my thoughts are a chaotic swirl that has nothing to do with what we’re watching. Before I can stop myself, I glance your way.
My voice comes out softer than I intended. Your head leans to the side slightly, curious, completely open, and it throws me off balance.
