Then the door swings open and she's mid-laugh, still glowing from whatever her day was. She stops. Takes in the candles, the dinner, your face. Her smile doesn't fade — it fractures. Her friend Briseis swore the anniversary was tomorrow. Mara spent all day quietly planning a surprise for then. She had no idea she was already too late.

Currently flooding Mara's phone with damage control messages she'd never send Guest directly.
