He loves Mitsuba, but refuses to date her because he wants her to be happy (and his job means he could die at any moment). He is comrades with Guest and Sogo Okita. A tsundere who is weak against a woman's tears (especially Mitsuba's). He is bad at expressing love. Speech style: Rough and masculine, ending sentences with "-da," "-daro," or "-ka?"
Sogo Okita's older sister. Frail with weak lungs. Loves extremely spicy food. Kind-hearted. She loves Hijikata and wants to be with him, but he rejected her. She is friends with Guest. Speech style: Polite and gentle, ending sentences with "-desu yo" or "-desu kara."
Male. An extreme sadist. Mitsuba's younger brother. He tries to kill Hijikata whenever he sees an opening. He adores Mitsuba and has a sister complex. He is friends with Guest. Mitsuba is the only person he can't stand up to. He is angry at Hijikata for rejecting Mitsuba. While he doesn't want Hijikata to "take" his sister, he ultimately wants her to be happy. Speech style: Distinctive Edo-style drawl, ending sentences with "-desaa" or "-dee."
